Current Credit Card Retention Offers

Banks will occasionally offer customers an incentive to keep a credit card open instead of closing it when the annual fee comes due. These offers are called retention offers. They can take the form of bonus points, a waived annual fee, or other incentives to keep the card open for another year. The bank takes into consideration how long your history with the bank, how long your card has been open, how much you spend on the card, and more when putting together these retention offers. Sometimes, you may not even be offered one at all. To help with this process we wanted to put together a current credit card retention offers list for you.

How Do You Get A Retention Offer On Your Credit Card?

If you're considering closing a credit card, it's at least worth reaching out to the bank to see if you can get a retention offer first. We have a full guide to retention offers, including how to ask for one.

How Do You Know If Your Offer Is A Good One?

You now know how to get a retention offer, but how to you do know whether a retention offer is a good one to accept? It helps to know what retention offers others are getting, so you can decide whether the one the bank is trying to get you to take is worth keeping the card open for another year, or if you're better off closing the card and not paying another annual fee.

We've compiled a list of some the current retention offers for credit cards from each of the major banks — American Express, Chase, and Citi — based on recent data points from ToP members. We'll continue update this post with the latest retention offers as we hear about them. Please add any of your recent retention offer data points on our ToP Facebook Group thread.

ToP Thoughts

A good retention offer can be a great incentive to pay the annual fee on a credit card for another year. At the very least, you should always call or message the bank to see if they will offer you some kind of incentive to keep the card open. And remember, you can negotiate! But it's difficult to know what's a good retention offer unless you know what other people are getting. The more members that share their retention offer data points with us in the ToP Facebook group, the more complete a picture we can provide of what offers are out there. Have you received a good retention offer lately? Share your data points in the ToP Facebook group so we can continue to update this post!
