The American Express Blue Business Plus is an excellent everyday spend business card. The card has a simple earning structure, no annual fee, and limited benefits. The Blue Business Plus is as simple as it gets, but we at ToP view it as a keeper card. Below we explain why this card deserves a spot in your wallet.
The Blue Business Plus has not always carried a welcome offer. The current welcome offer is to earn 15,000 MRs after spending $3,000 in eligible purchases on the card within your first 3 months of card membership. We have seen previous welcome offers that have been higher and lower than the current one. Welcome offers for the card generally tend to come and go as well. The Blue Business Plus card has no annual fee.
Amex generally will not approve you for more than 2 cards every 90 days. Also, the Blue Business Plus card counts towards Amex's limit of five credit cards, since the card is a credit card, rather than a charge card. As discussed below, the Blue Business Plus is definitely worth taking up one of those 5 slots.
The Blue Business Plus card's earning structure is very simple. The card earns 2x MRs per dollar spent on the first $50,000 in purchases per calendar year, regardless of spend category. The Blue Business Plus then earns 1x on all other purchases thereafter.
With no annual fee, it's no surprise that the Blue Business Plus lacks major benefits like statement credits and lounge access. That said, the card does offer 0.0% introductory APR on purchases for 12 months from the date of account opening. The Blue Business Plus also offers extended warranty and purchase protection as benefits.
Lastly, the Blue Business Plus also offers car rental loss and damage insurance. This benefit covers damage to or theft of a rental vehicle when you pay for your entire rental with your Blue Business Plus and decline the rental company's collision damage waiver. Keep in mind that this benefit provides secondary coverage (as opposed to primary coverage), and does not include liability coverage.
The Blue Business Plus is a no-brainer and a definitive keeper. The Blue Business Plus is the best card for earning MRs on everyday spend since no other Amex card earns 2x MRs on everyday spend. The lack of an annual fee makes this card even better. This card is definitely worthy of taking up one of your 5 Amex credit card slots.
This Blue Business Plus is a great companion to other MR-earning cards that earn bonus points for specific spend, like the Amex Gold or the Amex Platinum. At the end of the day, we all need a card to complement these high-earning cards. And that is the role of the Blue Business Plus. Everyday spend is a great way to meet minimum spend on new cards. But it's still important to have a good everyday spend card for when you are in between new cards.
The Blue Business Plus is a great addition to anyone's wallet. A no annual fee card that earns 2x MRs on everyday spend is a no-brainer. Whenever you're not meeting minimum spend on a new card, you should consider putting your everyday purchases on the Blue Business Plus. You can combine this high-earning everyday card with other American Express cards to maximize spending and earning.
