2027 Bilt Changes

It’s been almost a year since Bilt broke the internet with its 2026 refresh of its credit cards and rewards program. This year’s initial Bilt Cards launch was all at once clunky and confusing, yet somehow compelling. And ultimately, it gave cardholders access to a program that has been hugely valuable and rewarding in 2026. Now, we’ve learned that Bilt is making another round of massive changes to its rewards program in 2027. Some updates sound promising, like a Daily Rewards program and new elite status perks. But significant changes to how Bilt Cash can be earned and redeemed could make some of the program’s most valuable redemption options much harder to use. Here’s what we know about the 2027 Bilt changes.

What’s Changing With Bilt in 2027?

Let’s start with an at-a-glance, CliffsNotes-style overview of the biggest 2027 Bilt changes. We’ll dive a little more into each one below.

  • Bilt Cash updates: Expiration dates are being extended, expiring 12 months after earning rather than at the end of the calendar year. New Bilt cardholders will earn up to 1.25X points on rent and mortgage payments instead of earning 4% Bilt Cash on everyday spending. Existing cardholders can choose to retain the old system or move to the new one.
  • Annual cardholder Bilt Cash credits:
    • Palladium cardholders get $600 in annual Bilt Cash (instead of the existing $200 Bilt Cash credit and $400 in annual hotel credits)
    • Obsidian cardholders get $100 in annual Bilt Cash (instead of the existing $100 annual Bilt Travel hotel credit)
  • Hotel redemption timelines: Bilt Cash hotel redemptions will be limited to twice per year, with different caps based on elite status and card type.
  • Daily Rewards program launches January 15, 2027: Members will be able to unlock rewards through on-time housing payments and eligible neighborhood purchases, including chances at major prizes.
  • New elite status perks: Gold and Platinum members will gain additional hotel redemption options, while Silver, Gold and Platinum members will have access to rental car status matches.
  • Credit card upgrades are now available: Eligible cardholders can upgrade their Bilt credit cards directly in the app.

Bilt Cash Changes

The Bilt Cash update is the headline here, and much of it is a devaluation. The 2027 Bilt changes include the following adjustments to how you can earn and use Bilt Cash:

Bilt Cash Expiration

On the bright side, Bilt Cash will no longer expire at the end of the calendar year. Instead, it will expire at the end of the month, 12 months after it was earned. For example, $100 of Bilt Cash earned in February 2027 will now expire on February 28, 2028. No need to worry about year-end rollover limits anymore. Phew! With the old system, Bilt Cash earned toward the end of the year previously had very little time to be used. This is a much-requested improvement that we think Bilt fans will appreciate.

Changes to Bilt Cash Earnings

Under the current Flexible Bilt Cash system, cardholders can earn 4% back in Bilt Cash on everyday spending, which can then be used to unlock additional points on rent and mortgage payments or redeemed for other benefits. That system is being retired for new cardholders. Instead, cardholders will earn up to 1.25X Bilt Points on rent and mortgage payments without needing to accumulate Bilt Cash to unlock those earnings. As a refresher, earning even 1x requires spending the equivalent of at least 75% of your housing payment. Here’s how to unlock each tier:

Points on HousingMinimum everyday spend as a % of monthly rent / mortgage
(Example of $2,000 rent)
0.5X pointsSpend at least 25% of monthly housing payment ($500)
0.75X pointsSpend at least 50% of monthly housing payment ($1,000)
1X pointsSpend at least 75% of monthly housing payment ($1,500)
1.25X pointsSpend the same or more as your monthly housing payment ($2,000)

Existing cardholders will get a choice: Before their card anniversary date, they can switch to the new benefits on their card anniversary or opt out and remain in the current Flexible Bilt Cash system. However, they will not be able to switch back and forth between the two systems. If you are not yet a Bilt Cardholder and want to get in on the new system, we’d recommend applying before the changes take effect on January 1, 2027. Just remember that these cards will impact your 5/24 status.

Annual Bilt Cash Credits

Under the new system, cardholders will receive annual Bilt Cash credits instead, deposited on the cardholder’s account anniversary date:

  • Palladium Card: Receive $600 in Bilt Cash annually (previously $200 Bilt Cash credit and two $200 hotel credits)
  • Obsidian Card: Receive $100 in Bilt Cash annually (previously $100 Bilt Travel hotel credit)
  • Milestone awards: Members will be able to earn additional Bilt Cash through milestone awards, though Bilt has not published official details about how this will work.

While these credits sound more flexible in theory, cardholders who previously could have earned large amounts of Bilt Cash through everyday spending will now have a much smaller stash of it. Bilt Obsidian and Palladium Cardholders who want to use the Points Accelerator to earn an extra point per dollar on up to $5,000 in spending can continue to do so in $200 Bilt Cash increments. But that would leave them with less Bilt Cash to work with for hotels, Blade rides and other redemptions.

Bilt Cash Hotel Redemption Limits

We don’t know yet if or how Bilt Cash redemption options will change in 2027, other than for hotels. Beginning January 1, 2027, Bilt Cash hotel redemptions will move from a monthly benefit to a twice-yearly benefit. Limits will depend on your Bilt status and/or card:

Status or CardMaximum Per RedemptionAnnual Maximum
Blue / Silver$50$100
Gold / Platinum$100$200
Eligible Palladium Cardholders$200$400

New Daily Rewards Program

This is a brand-new initiative launching January 15, 2027. Bilt members will be able to earn rewards for paying their rent or mortgage (including for non-Bilt Cardholders) and visiting Bilt Neighborhood businesses like coffee shops and restaurants and completing qualifying activities, like dining or taking a class. The Daily Rewards will reveal prizes to choose from, such as Bilt Points and Bilt Cash. Grand prizes will be as large as 10 million Bilt Points, free rent or mortgage payments for one year or even $1 million toward purchasing a home.

2027 Bilt Changes: ToP Thoughts

It was only a month ago that we learned Bilt will devalue its Hyatt transfer ratio in 2027. Now, more major 2027 Bilt changes are in store. We appreciate Bilt’s efforts to make its program less complex. But it will come at the expense of some valuable earning and redemption opportunities. Other than the expanded expiration date, we’d argue most of the Bilt Cash changes are another devaluation. Eliminating the ability to earn 4% Bilt Cash on everyday spending and replacing it with fixed Bilt Cash credits for select cardholders will be a lot less lucrative for those who spend heavily on the cards. Existing cardholders who want to stick with the old system can opt out of the new benefits in their settings before their card anniversary date, but they cannot switch back and forth.
