What Should I Buy On Dell?

What should I buy on Dell, is a question we get multiple times a week in the ToP Facebook Group. Instead of typing out the same responses over and over again, it felt like an article was in order. One that we can update as new options arise, or as people share their favorite options. This is a problem many people have each year because of the Amex Business Platinum Dell credits. That is especially true if you have more than one Business Platinum Dell credit thanks to no lifetime language offers. On ToP of sharing my favorite items for sale on Dell, I'll also go over how you can use multiple cards for one transaction.

Dell sells a whole lot more than just computers after all, but those are always an option too. That is, if you can get them to put your order through!

How To Split Tender Your Purchase

One of the few things Dell does well is they allow you to split your payment online across multiple cards. This allows you to stack your Business Platinum Dell credits to buy more expensive things. You could also pair up your Business Platinum Dell credits with a card that has a Dell Amex Offer etc.

Dell lets you use up to 3 different payment methods. The one downside to this set up is if you use Dell Rewards, that will unfortunately count as 1 of your 3 payments. An annoying quirk of the program for sure, but here is how you pay with multiple credit cards on the Dell website.

What Should I Buy On Dell?
Step 1: Select Multiple Payments

First up, you will want to make sure the multiple payments box is checked (upper left of the screen shot). Then you can enter in your credit card info, or select a saved card from a previous purchase. As long as there is a balance remaining you should be able to add another payment option. You just continue this step until you hit up to 3 in total. You will want to enter $200 in the box if you are using your Business Platinum Dell credits. Or, at least whatever you have left in credit to use on the card. The same idea works for maximizing a Dell Amex Offer.

Step 2: At The Bottom Select Continue (Must Have Remaining Balance To Add Another Card)

After inputting the info for the first (or second card) you will want to scroll to the bottom of the page and hit continue. As long as there is a balance left it will let you add the next card. Whatever is remaining will end up going on the third card. You will want to be sure that you have the amounts lined up properly so that the correct charge hits each card as you had planned. You do this step for card 2 and repeat it for card 3.

Step 3: Verify The Totals For Each Card & Adjust If Needed

Here is what it will look like when you split your Dell payment across 3 cards. You can do this for just 2 cards too, or 2 cards and Dell Rewards. The only rule is that when combined they need to match up to the total owed.

Items To Purchase On Dell

Now that we know how to maximize the American Express Business Platinum Dell credits we still need to answer the question, what should I buy on Dell? As I stated above, Dell sells a lot more stuff than people probably realize. I'll go over some things that I have bought in the past, and share some other cool things I found along the way. Hopefully this gives you some ideas when you are struggling to figure out what to use your Amex Dell credits on.

Items I Have Bought / Will Buy

Here are a list of things I have purchased in the past. The kids have been getting a lot of stuff from Dell for Christmas and birthdays for years now.

  • Laptops (duh)
    • Dude, you're getting a Dell! They don't make the best computers but I am typing this on one of them I used credits for right now. And since I use it for business purposes I got to write the purchase price off! (cover my butt language – this is not tax or financial advice)
  • Firestick
    • Get one for travel and it will be the best thing you have done.
  • Travel Backpack
    • The one we bought isn't on there anymore, but this looks pretty close. Tons of other options too.
  • Xbox One
    • These come in and out of stock. Right now they only have Series X but they often have Series S too.
  • Xbox Games
    • They have a ton of them.
  • Xbox Pro Controllers
    • Easy to spoil gamers with the best when it is from credits!
  • Nintendo Switch
    • Each kid has their own Nintendo Switch thanks to Dell. Perfect for long flights or road trips. I may even have one myself!
  • Nintendo Controllers
    • If you hate the joysticks set up you can buy more traditional controllers
  • Nintendo Games
    • Tons of these too
  • Bose Headphones
    • The family flies (and works) in style now. Using mine right now as typing this article up!
  • Computer Monitors
    • My son has a sweet dual monitor set up thanks to Dell
  • Video Projectors
    • Movie nights outside anyone? Or play that new gaming system on a huge screen!
  • Turntable
    • My daughter is a big Swifty so we got her a turn table and she listens to Tay Tay the right way.
  • Mice & Keyboards
    • We upgraded our rigs in both areas
  • Printers
    • When my printer went kaput, where do you think I went?
Things Dell Sells That Are Cool & Worth Checking Out

Here are some other things I have had my eye on, or just think are cool, that Dell sells online:

  • Arcade Machines / Tables
    • It doesn't get better than this
  • Fibit / Pixel / Garmin Smart Watches
    • If you are looking for something other than an Apple watch, then this should have you covered.
  • Cameras
    • There was an instant print camera that makes stickers of the photos. It is not on there now but watching for it for my daughter. Other digital cameras though if someone in your family wants to be a streamer etc.
  • Canon Cell Phone Photo Printer
    • This thing looks pretty cool. May need to snag one for the kids.
  • Smart Light Bulbs & Plugs
    • Bring some life to your home with these
  • Router
    • Juice up your WiFi speed / extend your signal
  • Ring Doorbell
    • We must protect this house!
  • Echo Dot
    • If you don't have them yet you can get them free
  • Computer / Gaming Chairs
    • Time to upgrade that old uncomfortable thing!
  • Webcam
    • Tons of options to upgrade your video conferencing set up
  • Podcast Mic
    • Same as above
  • Amazon Echo Show
    • These are expensive, which means perfect for your credits! I may need to add one of these to our kitchen for TV watching while cooking etc.

Try To Pair With Increased Shopping Portal Payouts

There is one more thing I should go over when figuring out what you should buy on Dell. You will also want to try to time up the purchase with increased shopping portal payouts. These can go up to 10%, 15% or even 20% at times. I usually strike whenever it hits 10% or higher when I have something to buy. We try to let people know when it is increased on Rakuten as well.

What Should I Buy On Dell: ToP Thoughts

After this, if you are still wondering what should I buy on Dell then I don't know what to tell you. I hit the high notes, but really just scratched the surface and came up with over 25 ideas. Use these credits to spoil yourself a bit, or to buy something you wouldn't normally buy. You already more than offset the annual fee from the first year welcome offer, so there is no need to be super picky here. Have some fun with it and I guarantee you find something useful. If not for you, then for someone else. Turn Dell into your gift giving genie!

If not, you can always buy stuff to resell at a slight loss to recoup your money. Think gaming systems around the holiday. List the sale as brand new, with a receipt, on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist and people will buy it for slightly under cost. They get a discount plus save on the sales tax (if your state has it). It won't get you all of your money back, but it is better than nothing.
