IHG Free Night Certificates Stack With 20% Off Promotion

Yesterday I shared with you how the newest IHG promotion was surprisingly awesome. It offered a lot of value on its face, but really shined in the points plus cash bookings area. Read yesterday's article for more information on the promo and how to stack it a bit. I am here today to tell you this goodness gets even better. ToP team member extraordinaire Shira found another nice little wrinkle of the promotion that makes it so IHG free night certificates stack with the 20% off promotion.

How Does This Work Exactly?

The IHG promotion for the first quarter of 2023 is supposed to offer you 20% off award stays. The cool thing is that this is shown at the time of booking, instead of getting points back after the stay. Because the promotion is set up that way we are seeing some interesting things happening on points and cash bookings. I thought I had found a nice nugget buried there but Shira totally came in an scooped me with this free night certificate find.

She was searching around the other night, once the promotion went live, and checking out a booking in Nashville with her free night certificates. She got this certificate from her IHG Premier Rewards credit card. What she noticed was that the 20% off award rate was what was used for her free night certificate booking too. It also worked this way on her significant other's old IHG Rewards Club Mastercard (no longer available).

All of this means that the stay she wanted, which was for above the 40,000 free night cert point cap, was now showing bookable with both their certificates. That is a nice side benefit of this promotion. By stacking this offer it could make any certificates you have in your account worth up to 50,000 points during the promo timeline. Since 20% off a 50K room is right at the 40K certificate cap. That is pretty awesome!

Reminder On Who Is Eligible For The IHG 20% Off Awards Promotion

I should notate this 20% off promotion is only available to cardholders. It should be rolling out to Elite members on 1/13/23 as well. I imagine most of which likely already have the credit card though (HT FM). But, if you took advantage of that Diamond match a while back, and don't already have a credit card, then you could be in luck here too, Assuming you have an old cert in your account.

IHG Free Night Certificates Stack With 20% Off Promotion: ToP Thoughts

Wow, what a great find by Shira. If I had some certificates sitting in my account then I would try to burn them during this promotion. At least if it made sense with my travel pattern. They will likely never be worth more than they are right now when stacked with the IHG 20% off award stays promotion. Who knows if this was the intention of IHG either, so get your bookings locked in while you can!
