Hyatt Status Coming As A Card Perk?
Earlier this week there was a joint press release by Chase and World of Hyatt that got people excited about a few different things. The main one being the possibility of getting status from one of the premium cards in their wallet. The status is fool's gold though. It is nothing more than shiny object syndrome. If I gave you Hyatt Explorist status and a bag of chips – well, you would have a bag of chips. Let's get into what Chase and Hyatt had to say, and why I think it is a bunch of nothing on both fronts.

ToggleHyatt Explorist Status Coming To The Chase Sapphire Products
Here is what the press release had to say that people found interesting in terms of status:
World of Hyatt Explorist status will be added as a benefit for top spending Chase Sapphire Reserve and Sapphire Reserve for Business cardmembers beginning in the middle of 2026.
The first thing that stands out is that Hyatt Explorist status will be a benefit for top spending Sapphire Reserve and Reserve for Business cardholders. That likely means it will be thrown in with the other big spending perk for the cards. That requires $75,000 in spend on the personal card and $120,000 on the business card. I already broke down why trying for the large spending goal on the Sapphire Reserve card is a worthless endeavor. The business card proposition looks even worse. Guess what? Giving World of Hyatt Explorist status adds absolutely nothing of value to that equation.
Why? Because Hyatt Explorist status is worth essentially nothing. Sure, it could get a few more points on cash stays. Maybe it turns your 3rd floor view into a 5th floor view too. The problem with Hyatt status levels is that none of them really matter outside of Globalist (the reason why Guest of Honor awards are so valuable). That is because no perks of the status are really tied to the status level anymore. Hyatt broke out the perks of status when they introduced Milestone Rewards. Everything, outside of some Globalist perks, are tied to your elite nights. They should just give Explorist status to everyone because it doesn't really matter. Requiring that level of spend to get something so worthless is a slap in the face for anyone that knows what is going on.
A New Hyatt Premium Card Is Teased … Again
Having a little deja vu about a Hyatt premium card teaser? That is because it has been rumored since the Hilton Aspire first hit the market. It has been on every blogger's year end wish list for like 6 years running. Here is what the press release had to say about a new Hyatt card launch:
Additionally, Hyatt plans to expand its card portfolio as Hyatt and Chase continue to grow their relationship, building on the success of its current co-branded credit cards – the World of Hyatt Credit Card and the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card.
While they don't say premium Hyatt card that is really the only place they have to go with a new card. Whether that means a mid tier premium card with worthless Explorist status, or something up in the $700+ range with Globalist status, remains to be seen. I couldn't see them giving Globalist status just for an annual fee like the Aspire does with Hilton Diamond. That is because Hyatt Globalist is super valuable, where Diamond is just Hilton Gold status with a different name on the box. It is an okay status, but getting Hilton Gold for a fraction of the cost is the better deal. I could see Chase & Hyatt giving a bigger head start with elite nights or a better way to rack some up via spend etc.
The truth is no one knows what this really means, and it doesn't seem to be all that close anyway. Their lackluster launch of the World of Hyatt Business card doesn't give me high hopes that this would be something great anyway.
Hyatt Status On Sapphire Reserve Cards: ToP Thoughts
It is always exciting to hear that new perks will be added to a credit card. Especially when those perks come with no annual fee increase. The banks have gotten good at adding things that seem like substance, but fall woefully short of actually adding value. That is exactly what is happening here with Hyatt status coming to the Sapphire Reserve cards. The fact that it will likely require a ton of spend just makes it all the more disappointing. Don't be the dummy going after the carrot that they mistake you for. Fight that shiny object syndrome! Share your thoughts over in the ToP Facebook Group.
