The Discover 5% back 3rd quarter 2023 categories are here and you can activate them now. I would do it while it is top of mind and then you are free to get rolling come July 1st. The rest of the 5% (or 5x) earning cards will announce their categories in a few weeks.

Discover 3rd Quarter Categories

The categories for the 5% back earning for the third quarter 2023 are as follows:

Gas stations
Digital wallets
- Wallets that qualify include Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Garmin Pay and in store with Google Pay

This is a great quarter for me personally. My wife drives a lot for work and her gas tank will do a lot of the heavy lifting here. The digital wallets should make it easier for others without good gas station options as well. That opens up a variety of stores.

Discover 5% Back 3rd Quarter 2023: ToP Thoughts

This is one of my favorite categories and should be an easy $75 in cash back for each of our Discover cards. I like that they paired gas stations with mobile wallets which should make it more accessible for more people. I am sure everyone's gas tanks (except for Tesla owners etc.) will eat up a good portion of the $1500 cap.
