Chase Sapphire Reserve The Edit Credit Changes
Can you call something a refresh when it was changed after only a few weeks? Is this a knee jerk reaction to American Express' much better received Amex Platinum credit card refresh? Whatever the reason, the Chase Sapphire Reserve The Edit credit changes are a positive one for cardholders. Competition usually ends up being a good thing for the consumer after all. Let's get into the details of what Chase has edited (yeah I went there) on this new card perk.
Update 1/1/26: The Edit credit (on the Sapphire Reserve and Sapphire Reserve for Business) is now an annual $500 credit that you can use in two increments of up to $250 each on prepaid stays of your choice throughout the year.
Also, the anticipated changes regarding the hotel brands as part of The Edit Credit has been revised to reflect that this is a new, separate Chase Travel Hotels credit of $250 annually.
The Edit Credit Changes
Just a week or so ago Derrick went through how he got a fantastic deal stacking his The Edit credit from his Sapphire Reserve for Business card along with a points boost redemption. This ended up saving him tens of thousands of Ultimate Rewards points versus transferring to their partner IHG. Normally transferring to travel partners offers the best value, but things have changed some with these recent card changes. That is especially true with hotel program transfer partners outside of Hyatt. This perk is available on the personal and business Sapphire Reserve products.
As first reported by Dans Deals, Chase has improved the timeline for using The Edit credit. It used to be a $500 a year credit broken out in to $250 chunks. You would get half of it from January 1st – June 30th, and the other $250 from July 1st to December 31st. I loathe credits broken out like this to cause breakage. We were left celebrating the fact that it at least wasn't done quarterly, like Amex loves to do. Chase decided to make some improvements after some recent feedback (and competition).
Starting next year, in 2026, the credits will not be locked into the bi-annual set up. You will be able to use them any time throughout the year. That means that you could do back to back bookings, if you wanted, for a 4 night stay. I say 4 nights because there is a 2 night minimum in order to trigger The Edit credit. You could then pay for the rest of the hotel charge with your Ultimate Rewards at 2 cents a piece thanks to the points boost program.

Other Additions / Improvements
Update: this is a new credit entirely, for prepaid hotels booked through Chase Travel on the Sapphire Reserve and Sapphire Reserve for Business cards with the following brands. The credit is a statement of up to $250 annually.
Dans Deals also reports that in 2026 the following Chase Travel hotel bookings will work for The Edit credits on two night or more stays:
- IHG Hotels & Resorts
- Montage Hotels & Resorts
- Pendry Hotels & Resorts
- Omni Hotels & Resorts
- Virgin Hotels
- Minor Hotels
- Pan Pacific Hotels and Resorts
These new hotel property additions should also be eligible for the 2 cents per point points boost redemption. This will be the much better option to book IHG hotels going forward versus transferring your Ultimate Rewards to their program.
Chase Sapphire Reserve The Edit Credit Changes: ToP Thoughts
While I wish they would remove the 2 night minimum for the credit, I do think that this was a great move by Chase. This change to The Edit credit will make it a lot easier to use, which could increase the value of the card for many. Especially when it is paired up with the points boost rate when booking via their portal. I think the sneakier improvement is adding a ton of new hotel options. We will have to wait to see if it is just select hotels from the programs listed above, but it should be adding more budget friendly options into the fold. That will help make The Edit credit on your Chase Sapphire Reserve cards even easier to use. Let me know what you think of this “edit” over in the ToP Facebook Group.
