Chase Lost, Damaged & Delayed Luggage Guide

Part three of our four-part series on Chase's premium card insurance focuses on baggage. While I am generally a carry-on only type of guy, I do occasionally check my bags for a more hands-free experience on the plane. This Chase lost, damaged & delayed luggage guide outlines why you want to use your Chase premium cards when checking a bag. And, what to do if it gets lost, damaged, or stolen. Plus we have a handy dandy reference sheet you will have at the tips of your fingertips everywhere you go.

Knowledge is Power – And It's In Your Pocket

The purpose of this post is to give you several easy-to-read guides for premium Chase card- insurance. Optimized for viewing on a smartphone without scrolling and searching, you will find the answer to “does my card cover that?” quickly and painlessly. Refer to your card's guide to benefits for full details. Chase switched insurance providers from eclaimsline to Assurant in October 2024, so make sure you get the more current guide to benefits. Most coverage remain the same, but there are some minor changes. Bear in mind that these infographics are for quick reference, and Chase can change this insurance at any time.

Cards That Offer This Coverage

Here are the credit cards that we will be covering in this Chase premium card lost & delayed luggage insurance guide (also included in the savable image below):

Make sure you pay attention to the timelines and how the amount cover differs depending on the delay timeline etc.

Chase Baggage Delay Benefit

I know some people secretly hope their baggage is delayed so they can take advantage of a free shopping spree. I pack a day or two of clothes in my carry-on in case my checked bag is delayed. If that does happen, I will start that 6-hour timer and hit the stores if my luggage doesn't arrive on time!

Chase Lost / Damaged Luggage Reimbursement

Are you missing a wheel, handle, or lose your bag altogether after checking your bag? Your Chase premium card has you covered. Whether you hold a Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, Sapphire Reserve for Business, Ink Preferred, or a Ritz-Carlton card, this benefit is the same across the board. Keep in mind, this coverage is secondary to what the airline offers you. For example, if the airline damages your bag beyond repair, and they offer you a new bag for free, you won't be eligible to submit a claim with Chase. I recommend keeping valuable items with you instead of a checked bag. If you do check a bag with valuables, it's a good idea to take pictures before you head to the airport.
