Find An Old American Airlines Receipt

After going to another awesome Travel on Point(s) seminar / meetup I needed to do a little bookkeeping when I got home. I had used a bunch of American Airlines gift cards to pay for my flights to the meet up earned from some airline incidental / travel credits, but had forgot to print off my American Airlines receipt at the time of booking. That shouldn't be a problem, or so I figured. I assumed that I should be able to easily find that in my AAdvantage account like I do with Delta and others. Except it wasn't really that simple with American. Because of that, I figured that I would share how to find an old American Airlines receipt in case you need to print one off for record keeping etc.

There Is No Way To Do This Within Your American AAdvantage Account

As far as I could tell, there is no way to find an old American Airlines receipt in your American Airlines AAdvantage account. I expected there to be a section that showed past flight receipts etc. When that didn't work out I figured that looking through my activity might populate a receipt. The problem was that it would only pull up my loyalty points and miles earning for the flight in question. It would be nice if they had a hyperlink to your receipt right in there, but this is airline IT we are talking about here. If someone knows of a way be sure to let me know in the ToP Facebook Group.

How To Find Your Ticket Number

Before we get into how to find an old American Airlines receipt we should discuss locating your flight's ticket number. This is something that each flight booking has that is tied to you and that particular booking. The ticket number is something you will need to have to pull up your American Airlines flight receipt, so it is best to track it down first. You can do this a few different ways:

  • You can search your old emails for the booking confirmation (this could also be a way to locate the booking receipt)
  • If you didn't save it in your email then you can check your American Airlines AAdvantage account activity page (it is located under the overview page on your account)
    • In here you will need to select dates that match the flight you are trying to track down.
    • Once there you can pull up the earning details on the flight and it will show your ticket number.

Once you have the ticket number of the American Airlines flight you need the receipt for the process is fairly quick on tracking it down.

Printing Off An American Airlines Receipt

I should once again mention that finding your old confirmation email may be the quickest option for you. You should be able to search the destination airport code in your Gmail account etc. and find it that way. If not, then you need to go to the website page that American Airlines set up for old flight receipts.

https://www.aa.com/your-receipts/

Once on this page you will enter your recently located ticket number and your name. That should pull up your full flight receipt once everything is entered and you click find your receipt.

You will notice a hyperlink to find your ticket number on the screenshot above. This just takes you to a questions and answers page that doesn't offer you any actual help. Locate your American Airlines flight ticket number via one of the two options I discussed above before going to the your receipts page.

How To Find An Old American Airlines Receipt: ToP Thoughts

I wish American Airlines made finding an old flight receipt a bit more intuitive, but once you know the process it is fairly simple. Finding your American Airlines ticket number is probably the most annoying part. Maybe the best practice is to just save your booking emails as you get them in an American Airlines receipt email folder. I wish there was a way to find your flight receipt in your AAdvantage account, or at least a link to this receipt website page. Hopefully that is an improvement we see one of these days. I know I have run into similar annoyances with no activity being show on their amazing new business account program. Airlines could do their frequent flyers a service by focusing more on the technology on their websites and apps.
