10x Restaurant Amex Refer A Friend Offer
American Express likes to bring out the big guns every so often with their referral offers. There is a new 10x restaurant Amex refer a friend offer that many will find enticing. The best thing about this offer is that you still get the standard 15,000 – 35,000 bonus points as the referrer too. That means that these 10x earnings are on ToP of the normal referral bonus you would get. That is what I call icing on the cake!

Which Card Is Best For This Referral Offer?
Since the 10x earning is on ToP of whatever you normally earn on the card at restaurants you want to use a link that earns a bonus points in the category. If I referred from the Amex Business Gold card above I would earn 4x on restaurants, assuming it is one of my top 2 categories that month, along with the 10x refer a friend bonus. That would be a total return of 14x per dollar spend on restaurants over the next 3 months (up to $25K in spend). Outrageous!
The card's bonus categories are not the only thing you want to consider though. You should also include the main referral bonus into your calculations. You want to try to get the highest offer on that side of things too. Luckily my offer on the Business Gold is for 25,000 Membership Rewards, which is also as high as I have on any card. The two offers combined with the card's normal earning rates make it the perfect option.
If my 4x restaurant earning card only had a 15,000 Membership Rewards offer, and a card that had 1x earning had 25,000, then I would need to do some math. I would be giving up 10,000 points to earn an extra 3x on my restaurant spend. If I had planned on spending over $3,333 on restaurants over the next 3 months then I would take the lower up front offer. If not, then I would take the higher 25K bonus offer and earn 11x on my restaurant spend for 3 months.
Is This On Non Membership Rewards Earning Cards?
What if you don't have a Membership Rewards earning card? Or, what if you don't see the offer on yours? I did see it on my Delta Reserve card as well. The increased referral offer wasn't showing on any of my Hilton cards, which isn't a bad thing since their value is so low. I did see an offer on my wife's Blue Business cash card for 10% cash back. There is no doubt that the Membership Rewards earning cards are going to offer the most value though. Next up would likely be a Delta card, if you can use Skymiles, and then a cash back card. The Bonvoy and Hilton cards couldn't top those three options.
How Long Do The Points Take To Post?
Just wanted to update on the timeline for these offers for points posting. They seem to come in batches once or twice a week. Multiple days worth of charges can be posted at the same time. It can take anywhere from 3 or 4 days up to 8 or 9 days depending on when the charges post compared to the batch postings. This offer is still available until 5/22 so you have time to grab it. Be sure to time it well with when you have a trip etc. coming up with a lot of dining expense. I just referred my wife so we have it for our Hawaii trip.
10x Restaurant Amex Refer A Friend Offer: ToP Thoughts
I should warn you to be careful with how creative you get with the 10x restaurant Amex refer a friend offer. American Express is no stranger to claw-backs on offers such as these. If you just use it for standard dining out then you should be just fine though.
Let me know if you are going to take advantage of this amazing offer over in the ToP Facebook Group.
