Venture X Hertz Status

The card that launched to as much fanfare that I have seen since the Sapphire Reserve card came out, even if misguided, is taking another pound of flesh from cardholders. This just a few months after Venture X took a pound of food from them, dropping restaurants from the Priority Pass membership. I am still waiting for them to get around to that on the Venture X Business by the way, the better of the two cards for now. Next up, Capital One made the travel credit a whole lot less usable, causing me a frustrating experience recently. What is next, what is left to take? Next up, they are taking the Venture X Hertz status from you later this year. Yup, wave bye bye to that President's Circle status. A perk the influencers raved about during launch. Well, if Hertz didn't lock you up for using it at least

Update 9/17/24

We have received word from Capital One that this perk has in fact been extended past this year (no longer expiring 12/31/24). Here is their quote:

Eligible Venture X cardholders will continue to qualify for complimentary Hertz Gold Plus Rewards President’s Circle® status. Eligible Venture cardholders will continue to qualify for complimentary Hertz Gold Plus Rewards Five Star® status.

Update 1/9/24

We have received word from the Capital One team and they would like something clarified for our readers. They had this to say about the Hertz status perk:

We are currently in the process of evaluating the benefit, including the potential extension of the benefit.

Sounds like the perk could still possibly be extended. If not, hopefully they can replace it with something else.

One of the perks hanging around, Capital One lounge access

Venture X Losing Hertz President's Circle Status

This was a great find by the Thrifty Traveler team down in the terms of the card. They have since confirmed this change with Capital One. Here are the terms they found:

“Upon enrollment, eligible cardholders will remain at that status level through December 31, 2024, at which point they will be reverted to the level commensurate with Hertz standard usage policies.”

That means new cardholders, and legacy Venture X cardholders, will be losing the status perk at the end of this calendar year. If you have a World Elite Mastercard, then you can get it free anyway here (HT VFTW)

ToP Thoughts

For some, losing Venture X Hertz status will be a nothing burger. Who wants to risk jail time for renting a car anyway? For others, this will be a big blow if they maximized the Hertz President's Circle status often. Only you can decide what this loss means to your situation. Hopefully you have another World Elite Mastercard to get that back up, Stringer Bell style.

The trend is not good though. First we lost Priority Pass restaurant access, then the travel portal booking became less consumer friendly and now the Hertz President's Circle status vanishes later this year. Throw in the fact that they have the 5th most valuable points in the game … that OG Venture Rewards card is looking better and better. If you have another premium card already then I think the original Venture Rewards is the route going forward with Capital One. If you don't have a premium card then I would prioritize the Venture X Business card over the personal card if you are dead set on getting one. Otherwise I would focus on other premium card options out there.
