Renaissance Riverside Hotel Saigon

We feature mini property reviews in our “Quick Thoughts On … ” series. These articles are designed to pair up with the reviews posted by our ToP team members in the ToP Facebook Group. We hope these write ups give you a little more detail and are a bit easier to find if you want to go back to it later. The goal is to give you a fast, but well-rounded view of the property. This time, I am sharing my Renaissance Riverside Hotel Saigon quick thoughts.

The Cost of Booking the Renaissance Riverside Hotel Saigon: Is There Value in the Price?

Marriott's award pricing is dynamic, so the amount of points required for a stay will vary slightly based on the cash price. Generally, the award rate for this property falls between 35-45,000 Bonvoy points per night. Meanwhile cash rates normally run between $200-$240, or sometimes lower. The points price makes this a good use for Bonvoy 35k free night certificates too. I used 28k Bonvoy points instead of paying $175. But I would have paid that cash rate, since it was lower than other nightly rates I saw when looking to book this property. That gave me about 0.6 cents per point, which is typical for Marriott.

I also applied a Marriott Nightly Upgrade Award to this reservation. These Upgrade Awards are good for only 1 night each. Surprisingly, the hotel honored this request and confirmed it about 5 days before check-in. In my experience, these upgrade award requests are usually denied, even if a property decides to give you a suite at check-in.

The Room: What I Liked About It & What Could Be Improved

An upgrade to a suite makes everything better! I thought the room, while having a bit of an older feel, had everything I needed and lots of space. With a spacious separate seating area, this would be a great room to host guests over, especially if others in your traveling party had regular rooms. I enjoyed having a high floor room with amazing views as well. No matter how much I travel, getting a suite with amazing views just never gets old for me.

When I said the room had an older feel, the equipment by the nightstand was one thing that caught my eye. It made me laugh, even though it added some extra charm. But the room was clean and I had plenty of space so it added some unique character to the room.

My Thoughts on the Amenities the Property Offers

I always love a rooftop pool. It seems they are more common in Asia than other places I have traveled. I did not swim in it as the water felt a bit cool, but that seemed to be a theme for me on this trip, with the exception of one hotel. The pool had great city views and a bar. I could see having a swim and beverages up there on a hot summer afternoon or evening.

The hotel also has a club lounge, which is nice. I tend to find more hotels with these internationally than I do domestically. The quality of club lounges, regardless of hotel brand, can vary greatly, but this one was fantastic. If you have status, or are booked into a club level access room, this gives you some extra complimentary perks. There was a large area to work in. They served both breakfast and evening food and beverages. I was able to check-in at the lounge to access my room. This was great because I was tired from my travel so it gave me an area to relax in while waiting for my room.

If you don't have club access, downstairs there are plenty of dining options as well as a lobby bar, which I always like for convenience. Plus, lots of local dining options within a short walk.

My Favorite Thing(s) About The Renaissance Riverside Hotel Saigon

Location and views I think make this a great option. It is easy to walk to many dining options. In my case, it was very convenient for tour options too. One of my tours started right across the street at the river.

Would I Stay Here Again?

Yes! While there are lower cost options available in a city like this, sometimes having a branded hotel that you know will deliver the things you want in a good location is key. I would definitely consider it again.
