Wyndham To United Transfer Bonus

Normally transferring hotel points to airline programs is a horrible deal. That is because loyalty programs don't want you to move points from their program to another company's program at an increased value. That would cost them a ton of money and make their program look weak. What they do instead is give you perceived value via choice, but at a rate that probably saves them money versus you using those points in their own program. It is a great illusion for the uninformed consumer. Having said all of that, with a couple of new promos going on right now could this Wyndham to United transfer bonus actually be intriguing? That is especially true if your Wyndham points are nearing that 48 month expiration clock.

Double United Points Promotion

First up is the Wyndham to United transfer bonus that is going on until November 2nd. During the promo period you will get double the United miles you normally would for transfers. That sounds exciting and all, until you realize that the normal Wyndham transfer rate is 5 Wyndham points to 1 United mile. Gross! I value Wyndham points at 1 cent a piece, which would mean you would need to get 5 cents per United mile to make this comparable. That isn't going to happen for the majority of bookings.

With this promotion you would be getting 2 United miles per 5 Wyndham points (double). That brings the value down to 2.5 cents per United mile needed to break even. That is at least in the realm of possible – but still a bit high.

Doubling Down With United's Own Promotion

While getting 2 United miles for 5 Wyndham Rewards is an improvement, it isn't exactly great. The Wyndham to United transfer bonus does look better when you combine it with United's own transfer bonus. They are offering 25% more United miles for select hotel transfer partners. There is a cap of up to 25,000 miles to be aware of though. The good news is that Wyndham happens to be one of them (HT Loyalty Lobby). Make sure you register for this promotion before doing the Wyndham transfer.

If these offers stack then you would be getting 2.5 United miles per 5 Wyndham points, or a 2 Wyndham to 1 United mile transfer rate essentially. That brings the value down to 2 cents per United mile, which is very plausible. If you are using your United miles for international flights then you will routinely be getting more than that, for example. This makes it a very compelling use of Wyndham points – especially if you have some nearing that 48 month hard expiration date.

United 25% Transfer Bonus For Hotel Points

Hold On One Minute

There are a couple of things to be aware of with these Wyndham to United transfer bonuses though. The points need to be moved from Wyndham to United before 10/31/25. That is the date the 25% bonus for United ends. That doesn't seem like a big deal, since we have several weeks until then, but Wyndham transfers are SLOW. Like notoriously slow. Their terms say it can take up to 6-8 weeks. That is actually pathetic, since most transfers from other programs are instant. Maybe they take a few days at most. We are talking about Wyndham IT here though. They probably have some schlub in a basement manually entering all of these transfers or something on their Commodore 64 or something.

All of this is to say that there is a risk that the points don't make it to United in time to get the 25% bonus. Calling Wyndham to expedite may help, but there are no guarantees there. If they don't make it in time you would still get the 2 United miles for 5 Wyndham points, but you would miss out on the extra half a United mile per 5 Wyndham points transfer bonus. That would take a pretty good deal down to just an okay deal if it doesn't work out.

If you are interested then I would do it sooner rather than later to give yourself a shot with the timeline here. You would also want to be okay with a 5 to 2 transfer ratio in case things take longer than expected.

Wyndham To United Transfer Bonus: ToP Thoughts

If I had a stash of Wyndham points that have been collecting dust in my account for 3+ years then I would probably jump on this. You could move them into a program where they won't expire, and still keep around the same value for the points. That is assuming you can get both of these Wyndham to United transfer bonuses to stack in time at least. Let me know if you plan on taking advantage of this over in the ToP Facebook Group.
