Wells Fargo Ends Rewards Sharing
Have Wells Fargo Rewards sitting in both P1's and P2's accounts? You might want to combine them this week. Beginning this Friday, September 25, 2026, Wells Fargo ends rewards sharing between customers. Wells Fargo has long had one of the most generous policies for sharing rewards. Right now, you can move rewards to another person's eligible account without really having to jump through any hoops. But not for much longer. If you think you might need some of P2's points soon, don't put off moving them. Here's what to know about the approaching deadline.
Wells Fargo's Transferable Currency
Wells Fargo's transferable currency is one of the newer programs on the scene. It first introduced transfer partners in 2024, announced alongside the rollout of the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey Card. You can check out all of its current partners on our transfer partner tool, including Air France/KLM, British Airways, Choice Hotels, JetBlue, Virgin and more. Wells Fargo has continued to grow its travel program since its launch, adding new partners like Wyndham Rewards and Cathay Pacific Asia Miles earlier this year. With some solid cards to grab, this is a great currency to explore once you're over 5/24. But when Wells Fargo ends rewards sharing between customers, it won't be quite as flexible as it was before.
What Wells Fargo Is Changing This Week
Wells Fargo sent notices to customers earlier this summer about three changes happening this Friday, September 25. The change was first flagged by Travel with Grant. Two of the changes are pretty minor, while the points sharing update is a much more negative change:
- Wells Fargo ends rewards sharing. Currently, Wells Fargo accountholders can gift rewards to another eligible customer. The ability to transfer rewards to another person can of course be super helpful in two-player households. But the original policy was extra generous because you could literally send points to anyone, like partners, friends, family members or co-workers. Unfortunately, that ability ends this week.
- No more pooled account balances. Those who have more than one Wells Fargo card will no longer see one combined balance for their rewards. Instead, each card will show its own rewards balance. Going forward, you should fortunately still be able to move rewards manually between your own eligible accounts.
- The end of automatic rewards redemptions. Currently, you can set Wells Fargo Rewards to automatically redeem. You can schedule redemptions for when you hit a certain balance or on a specific date. Going forward, all redemptions will need to be done manually. This probably only affects a small group of customers.
How to Transfer Rewards Before the Deadline
The good news is that there's still time to get your rewards where you want them before Wells Fargo ends rewards sharing. Until September 25, Wells Fargo offers two different ways to share rewards with another customer. You can either redeem rewards as a gift or transfer rewards as a gift. Transfer Rewards as a Gift
This method allows you to transfer points directly to another person's eligible Wells Fargo credit card rewards account. The recipient then has full flexibility for using the points. They can redeem them for $0.01 each or transfer to one of Wells Fargo's airline and hotel partners, whenever and however they choose. The process is super easy. You can transfer any amount, with no minimum or maximum transfer amount.
Redeem Rewards as a Gift
This option lets you redeem your Wells Fargo Rewards toward another Wells Fargo customer's credit card, checking, savings, money market, line of credit or mortgage account, with rewards worth $0.01 each. Rewards must be redeemed in increments of 2,500, but there's no maximum redemption amount.

Don't wait until the last minute on this one. Review the list of Wells Fargo transfer partners and think strategically about any redemptions you might want to make. Log in to your Wells Fargo account now and check your rewards balances.
