The Standard, London Mini Review

We wanted to start up a new series called quick thoughts for mini property reviews. These are to pair up with ToP team member more in depth Facebook Group posted reviews. We figure these write ups would give you a little more detail outside of the ToP Facebook Group review, would be a bit easier to find if you want to come back to it and give you a more well rounded view of the property. This time around we will sharing Lana's Grand The Standard London mini review with 6 quick thoughts about the property.

What Was The Cost Of Booking The Standard, London & Do You Think There Is Value In The Price?

The Standard, London is a category 6 Hyatt hotel. On our stay we secured two off peak nights (21,000 points) and one standard night (25,000 points). That gave our total three night stay a cost of 67,000 World of Hyatt points. The cash price is often in the $400 – $600 per night range for this hotel, which made this a great use of points.

I should note that the biggest value of the hotel is that it’s the only property in London where 4 adults are permitted in a standard room entirely on points. We were originally booked at the Hyatt Regency Blackfriars before the devaluation for 2 rooms at 17,000 points a night for 3 nights. By booking our entire group into one room at The Standard, London instead we were able to save 35,000 points.

Share Some Thoughts On Your Room: What Did You Like About It & What Could Be Improved?

The room had two double beds (not queen), and there is no upgrade option for 4 people to a room with larger beds unfortunately. All other rooms, including suites, have one bed only and permit only one rollaway with an additional fee. It would be nice to have some suites with 2 beds at the hotel, but I understand this is a rarity in Europe. The couch was big enough for a child to sleep on, so they didn’t have to share a bed. I found our room to be a decent size, and it was nice that the toilet was separated from the bathroom and sink. When you are cramming four people into one room that can make a big difference.

Highlight Some Of The Better Amenities The Property Offers & Is It Missing Anything Important?

Decimo was sadly closed for recarpeting, it’s the Spanish-Mexican fusion restaurant helmed by Michelin-starred chef Peter Sanchez-Iglesias. The rooftop bar (cover photo above) had beautiful views overlooking St. Pancras, and the Library Lounge was a terrific place to curl up with a book and cup of tea. Breakfast was very British, with the makings of a full English breakfast. Little variety from day to day, but fine for a three day stay.

What Was Your Favorite Thing About The Property?

Location, location, location! It was easy to get anywhere in the city affordably being across the street from King’s Cross Station. Those looking to save money have the option to take the Picadilly line straight from LHR airport to King’s Cross. Elizabeth Line and Heathrow express only shaved off about 15-20 minutes of transit time and required a transfer.

Pro-tip – once you get to King’s Cross, ignore Google Maps, it is a liar. The exit you want is Euston Road (South Side), it’s a bit of a challenge to find the first time, but once you do it pops you up right in front of the hotel.

What Was Your Least Favorite Thing About The Property?

Service was a bit hit or miss, even with World of Hyatt Globalist status. Some examples are that we had to ask for water every day, and when we arrived at the hotel early due to our redeye flights they were unable to get our room ready until almost 2pm. I understand, they did say they were heavily booked, but they also didn’t text us when the room came ready as they said they would. They did ask if we wanted a late checkout, and did store and deliver our bags to our rooms, which was appreciated.

Would You Stay At The Property Again?

We’d stay at the property again for the excellent location and good value – for 4 people in one room. If your party is fewer than 4 people or your children are very young, Great Scotland Yard, Blackfriars, and Andaz Liverpool are all category 6 Hyatt hotels in London that might yield better value for the points.
