Earning Hyatt Globalist Status

First things first, I am going to remind you that chasing status is not for everyone. Everyday we see lots of ToP Facebook Group members wanting status even when they don't have the spend or travel to justify it. We always encourage you to analyze carefully and see if something really makes sense for you before diving in. Earning Hyatt Globalist status is high on most people's list because it can be so beneficial. That's true if you have enough stays at certain properties and if you have enough spending at your disposal. More on those two “ifs” later though. While no two people's journeys to World of Hyatt Globalist status are the same, I wanted to share my path to Globalist with you. This includes monthly updates on my progress.

Why Do I Value Hyatt Globalist Status?

Globalist status is the most rewarding hotel loyalty status, and one of the most rewarding in the entire travel space. You earn World of Hyatt Globalist status when you achieve 60 elite qualifying nights within a calendar year. These can be from actual hotel stays, from credit card spend, or a mix of both. Benefits of this ToP-tier status include guaranteed standard suite upgrades when available, complimentary breakfast, free parking on award stays, and access to concierge. Additionally, you earn several perks on your way to Globalist with milestone rewards, which are triggered at various elite night levels.

Why do I value it so much though? I love the Hyatt program because the value it provides me since the points are category based. It's easy to get a great vacation out of the points used when booking with World of Hyatt. As for Globalist status, the free breakfasts (especially when traveling with others), free parking on award stays, and any upgrades that may come along with it really add up to big savings and a better travel experience. Compared to the other brands, I always feel like I have a good grasp on exactly what I will get and I get outsized value more often. You could say the World of Hyatt program is the big draw, and I ended up earning Hyatt Globalist status as a byproduct of that. It also makes all of my stays more enjoyable, which is a big plus.

Using Spend To Help Me Reach My Goals

As I mentioned above, you can spend your way to World of Hyatt Globalist status. You wouldn't even need to put your head on one Hyatt bed to do it! However, if you don't have enough stays at the right properties it will not do you much good. We recently broke down all of this here if you are looking for more detail on the thought process. For me, I focus on a combination of spending on the Hyatt personal card and the Hyatt business card to go along with my normal stays when earning Hyatt Globalist status.

My 2026 Journey

I am back to share the next chapter of earning Globalist as I start the 2026 adventure. In this section I will give you a month-by-month update on my journey to earning Hyatt Globalist status. I'll come back to show you how I anchieved each of the required 60 elite nights to reach my goal. You'll see a mix of credit card perks, credit card spend, stays and even some of the more underrated changes in the Hyatt program.

January 2026

2 nights at a Hyatt Place before my Waldorf Cabo stay, locked in my first stay nights of the year. Followed that up by using my 2025 Chase Edit credit. Knocking out 4 nights early felt great and matched my 2025 month. February looks rough again, so lets see how this goes.

February 2026

A short Hyatt Place stay and I was able to add on one night for the ToP Phoenix meet up at the Hyatt Regency. That also allowed me to use an expiring suite night upgrade award as well. March is a big travel month for me, and I am still trying to line up what kind of Hyatt stays I can get in. My favorite Andaz going to a category 5 this week with no notice was brutal for me and this trip. Despite the news, I am pressing forward for Globalist. Could this year be even closer? I think it still makes sense for me this year to secure it as its still great value for a hotel brand and status.

March 2026

A trip to Asia got me some more nights. Although the no-notice category change mentioned above of a few properties happened to include the Andaz I wanted to visit, but had not booked. I pivoted and used a category 1-7 certificate, especially since Hyatt has cracked down on giving points if the certificates go unused. The next few months get tough, with little travel planned and no big trips until November, plus the changes coming to the program. I may have to put some ideas on the books ahead of time.

April 2026

Is it time to panic yet? Just one local staycation at 9k per night. I am, now at 20 nights. The scary part? I really do not have any immediate trips planned, and my schedule isn't as easy this year, but I tend to do things last minute. A little something to ease my mind though: last year after April how many nights did I have? 20! At least I am consistent, I guess. I am going to try and get some staycations on the books before the impending changes in May.

My 2025 Journey

Here is what happened in 2025.

January 2025

Here is my chart for January. You will see I received my 5 elite night head start from my personal World of Hyatt credit card, which helps out a ton. I also gifted away two Guest of Honor awards which earned me an elite night each time they were used for a stay by another Hyatt member. Lastly, I spent one night at a hotel using an expiring suite upgrade award for a mini staycation.

February

Just a two-night stay for the month, as my other nights were with Marriott.

March

As expected a busy month for me. This is the time of year where I get some travel in.

April

April might have been one of the worst travel months that I can recall in quite some time. Multiple trips that just did not happen and I lost about 6 nights. I was already a little worried about this year for the first time in multiple years, since becoming a globalist. That being said, I plan on rebounding. I think May could be a solid rebound month so stay tuned.

May

May is much better. I had 2 nights post from spend and did a 2-night staycation to get me rolling again.

June

2 nights on a local stay as I lost another round due to a cancelled trip. Is 2025 over yet? or at least the first half. I am also looking to July and August for some possible Hyatt Place stays with the latest promotion. I have a couple favorites that I might book. Summer is a slow time for me, with Spring and Fall being my heavy travel times as well as my heavy Hyatt business card spend. But I have to make some ground soon as this is my slowest pace yet, I think.

July

A bit better but again I probably missed a couple of opportunities. I have met $15k spend on the personal card now with my $5k spent this past month. Since I hit 30 nights, that's a new milestone award level. I will get a free category 1-4 certificate, plus another choice. I think I will take the Club level awards and maybe have them for friends. Plus, don't forget that $15k spent earns me a category 1-4 certificate as well. I typically switch all Hyatt card spend now to the Hyatt Business card. August should give me some more opportunities for some stays as well. As I look ahead, I think the last three months of the year are going to be where I need to push hard so stay tuned.

August

Somehow even with a tougher work and life schedule in August I made good use of some opportunities to get some nights including local stays. I am now starting to look at my fall schedule with tends to be more travel heavy and feeling better about being on the brink of 40 nights.

September

My crazy work month but pulled off one local stay.

October

Just one local stay but I end up with 8 nights thanks to the guest of honor gifting and business card spend. All of a sudden, I find myself just 12 nights away from Globalist with over two full months to go. Not bad considering how bad it looked early. Much like this hobby, slow and steady can work well. Looking ahead, November can be a busy time for travel so I am hoping to get even closer without needing too much work in December.

November

A big travel month for me but it did not start until the end of the month. So if you are on the edge of your seat wondering about 60, I don't even know if it will happen, but I got 3 nights closer with a fabulous Park Hyatt stay. In fact, I am making this update from a Hilton (I know, I know), but that's just how it worked out. I sit at 51 nights and I do have another Hyatt stay planned. My issue, however, is I change my trips around so I'm trying to build in more nights, as I pivot my trip mid-way through. I also made a crucial error recently, but it may save me a bit. Stay tuned, but it's going to be close.

December

A big travel time continued as I was on a trip to Asia. Part of my issue, is I love to rebook and change flights very last minute which means I missed out on at least one night, if not more. But after making a math error, I completed my real $15k in spend for two nights, but also had another trip canceled that would have put me over. Now the issue becomes, it's a busy time of year so do I take a last-minute trip? I do not have any days off through the end of the year, so how do I pull off the remaining nights? Mattress run? What would you do?

December Part Two

Well, I made it! It was much too close for my liking. I elected to do a local stay and found some off peak nights for 9k per night. Well worth it although I am not much of a mattress runner (booking hotels you don't stay at), I didn't even stay the second night because of how busy I was.

What was the 2025 recap from above broken down?

  • 380,500 Hyatt Points used for 30 nights
  • 4 Guest of Honor Gifted
  • 4 free nights certificates used (category 1-4) I took points on my 1-7 certificate
  • 1 FHR night ($94 out of pocket)
  • 13 nights from personal Hyatt card (5 nights for holding + 8 for the $5k spend which was $20k total)
  • 5 nights from Hyatt Business Card spend ($10k)
  • 3 nights from cash stays ($349 total spent)
