How This Can Be Useful For Status Chasers

While this is a great deal for anyone with a few stays at the participating hotels, it can also be useful for people chasing elite nights. That is because the bonus points from the promo can severely discount the cost of the rooms. Let's assume you have a category 1 hotel nearby that you can book with points. Let's also assume that you could make at least half of the reservations at an off-peak category 1 price point (3,500 points a night). Then we can assume that the other 4 nights were booked at the standard rate of 5,000 points a night. Here is what the math would look like:

  • 4 nights booked at 3,500 points a night = 14,000
  • 4 nights booked at 5,000 points a night = 20,000
  • You would maximize the offer and get 16,000 points back
    • Your net cost for 8 elite night credits would be 18,000 points, or 2,250 a night

If you were able to find all 8 nights at off-peak pricing that would be a cost of only 12,000 points, or 1,500 points a night. If you booked them all at the standard award rate the total cost would be 24,000 points, or 3,000 points a night.

I think that many would accept the cost of 3,000 points a night for 8 elite nights. If that makes it easier for you to get to the next level of status then it will likely be worth it. If you were planning on needing a mattress run later in the year then you might as well knock it out now. The early bird gets the worm after all, and a lower cost per night for their trouble.

Hyatt Place, House & Studios Promotion: ToP Thoughts

This World of Hyatt summer promotion is one of the better ones we have seen in a bit. It includes the lower end hotel brands, which are pretty much the only ones that still have some category 1 options, that should give great value. Getting up to 2,000 points off a hotel night that can cost as low as 3,500 points is pretty amazing. Even if you don't plan on chasing elite nights with the promo, hitting the lower tier option for 1,000 points a night off should be obtainable for many.
