Earn Alaska Miles For Rent Payments

A few weeks back it was announced that Bilt Rewards would be losing American Airlines as partner. People were pretty upset about the loss, but Bilt had a replacement ready and waiting in Alaska Airlines. Not only was Alaska coming on board as a new transfer partner, but they also offered up a way to earn Alaska miles for rent payments. We knew it was coming, but didn't know all of the details. Now we do, since the Alaska & Bilt rent payment program is now up and running This could be of interest to renters that don't have a Bilt Mastercard for fee free rent payments.

Alaska Airlines Visa Signature Cardholders Can Earn Points Paying Rent With Bilt

Alaska Airlines Visa Signature cardholders will be able to pay their rent through Bilt and earn 3X Alaska Miles per dollar of rent. Alaska cardholders will need to enroll in Bilt Rewards (if not already) first and link their Visa Signature card to their Bilt account. They will then use it to pay monthly rent through Bilt Rewards to earn the points.

Cardholders will also be able to earn bonus Bilt Points when using their linked card on neighborhood spend through:

  • Bilt Dining
  • Lyft rides
  • Bilt's fitness partnerships

Earn Alaska Miles For Rent Payments: ToP Thoughts

This is a potentially interesting partnership because some value Alaska miles as the best airline mile there is. While you are essentially buying them at 1 cent a piece, with the 3% fee for 3 miles per dollar, it would be a worthwhile trade off for some. I would not do anything above the $50,000 cap though, where you would be paying 3 cents per mile after that.

If you already pay a fee to make your rent payment with a credit card, then this could be a better option for you. You will come out as a net positive on that payment now with the bonus points earning. That is of course assuming that you have a use for Alaska miles and value them at over one penny a piece.

Having said all of that, you will still be better off using a credit card with a welcome offer attached to make your rent payment, even with the fee, because it will earn at a higher rate than 3x. If you have the Bilt Mastercard you would also be better off going that route, since it has no fee attached, unless you had a dire need for Alaska Airlines miles.
