Delta Gifting Elite Status

The New Year has begun, which means that status rat race has started all over again. I know the end of the year can be stressful for many trying to wrap up their preferred status tier. Inevitably, many end up falling just short of hitting that next rung on that status totem pole. It seems like one airline understands that frustration, at least a bit, since Delta is gifting elite status to some lucky members according to my buddy Andrew at CNN underscored.

Check Your Emails

One of Andrew's readers received an email from Delta saying their status had been proactively upgraded. You heard that right, the airline that slashed their program a few months ago is gifting some elites the next level of status. The reader was 7,000 MQMs short of Gold status but was still moved from Silver to Gold for the next year. Her newly minted Gold status is good until January 31, 2025.

That date is important, since I know many of you are probably pulling up your Delta Airlines app right now to see if you are one of the chosen ones. If you dropped a level or two from last year, the status won't reset until February 1st. Don't get fooled by that overlap. Case in point, mine still shows Platinum and I should be a lowly Silver pretty soon.

Delta Gifting Elite Status

Andrew reached out to for a comment on Delta gifting elite status and here is what they had to say on it:

“This is something we do every year for select Medallion Members who were just shy of achieving that next Status tier, and we love being able to reward them for their loyalty.”

As someone who fell less then 5,000 MQMs short of Gold status, I am hoping for an email to come my way soon. Even if it is very unlikely. If you remember, I ended up short because my Delta credit card scheme didn't work out as planned.

Delta Gifting Elite Status: ToP Thoughts

It is cool to see Delta gifting elite status to some members. I just wish it was more known how & why certain people were chosen. Hopefully some of our ToP family gets the email over the next few weeks. The reader is a non US based flyer so that may be why they got word before us stateside would have. Only time will tell.

Let me know if you get an upgrade to your Delta status over in the ToP Facebook Group.
