Finnair Avios Transfers

Finnair had announced in August 2023 that they would be joining the Avios program. This made the Finnish flag carrier the sixth airline to join the Avios loyalty program led by British Airways. As part of the move, Finnair also announced that their loyalty members eventually would be able to transfer between their Finnair and British Airways accounts. Lo and behold, the day has arrived!

Finnair Avios Transfers: Now Live!

As of May 22, 2024, travelers can transfer their Avios between Finnair and British Airways. This means you can now transfer Avios between Finnair and all of the other Avios programs, which include British Airways, Aer Lingus, Iberia, and Qatar Airways.

Capital One is Finnair's only US transfer partner, but this development makes the Finnair Plus program accessible to all major credit card points currencies. By transferring Avios between Finnair and British Airways, travelers can now transfer credit card points to Finnair Plus from any major bank by going through British Airways. (Citi ThankYou Points requires an additional step of first transferring to Qatar Airways since British Airways is not a Citi transfer partner.)

Finnair Avios Transfers

Transferring Finnair Avios to and from British Airways is very straightforward. But first, you need to link your Finnair and British Airways loyalty accounts. You can click on the link below to log in and and link your accounts:

Link to connect your Finnair and British Airways accounts

My wife and I managed to link our respective accounts very easily in just a couple of minutes. But others have reported running into hiccups trying to link their accounts.

Finnair does require you to set up two-factor authentication before you can connect your accounts. You have the option to use an authenticator app or text messaging. Once you have two-factor authentication set up, you can proceed with linking your accounts.

Finnair Avios Transfer: ToP Thoughts

Being able to transfer Avios between Finnair and British Airways opens up the Finnair Plus program to everyone with transferable points, like Amex Membership Rewards. This is because British Airways is a transfer partner of every major bank except for Citi (which has Qatar Airways as a partner). This means you can now transfer any major credit card point to Finnair Plus to take advantage of this great program.
