Barbie Hotel Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur

The Barbie movie comes out on Friday with the amazing Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling playing Barbie and Ken. Because of that I have been seeing ads and Barbie marketing all over the place. One such thing was talking about how Barbie's marketing department (company as a whole not the movie) is next level. I was kind of surprised to hear that until I remembered how many Barbie movies my kids watched when they were younger. One interesting tidbit that came from that thread about marketing was that there is a Barbie hotel…and it is inside a Grand Hyatt. Color me surprised, I mean pink! I had never heard of a Barbie hotel in the middle of a Hyatt (TripAdvisor reviews). I have to admit it looks pretty cool and if you are a Barbie fan I figured you would find this Barbie Hotel Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur interesting. There are also some other Barbie things happening closer to home this summer.

Details On The Barbie Ultimate Staycation

I initially figured this was a pop up type of hotel, something like Taco Bell did a few years back, to coincide with the movie launch. I was completely wrong though, the Barbie Ultimate Staycation inside the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur has been around for over two years now. The Barbie hotel occupies an entire floor at the Grand Hyatt and offers 14 different themed rooms and suites. Not only that, it has a Barbie Café which is inside a transformed glass restaurant out by the pool. A full afternoon tea experience is included in your room rate. It reminds me of the American Girl Doll Store dining experience we did in Chicago a few years ago, just nicer.

Here is a video of one of the rooms and the afternoon tea experience.

How Much Does It Cost? Sorry No Points Bookings

If you are interested in making a booking you can go to the Barbie Ultimate Staycation website. The fact that you don't book it on Hyatt's site is a bummer. I assume that means you wouldn't earn Hyatt points etc. on the stay like you traditionally would, but that is an educated guess on my part. I did try to book one of the rooms with points but it wouldn't come up. The World of Hyatt Twitter team also confirmed that is was not possible to book this portion of the hotel with points. That make sense because this is likely a partnership / third party renting the floor from them to host the experience.

The cost was in the $400 – $600 range when I initially looked into it a week or two ago but I can't get any available dates to come up now. I am not sure if they are sold out, if it is ending with the movie coming out (seems doubtful) or just a glitch.

They are still selling a Barbie tea time experience for two that you can pick up at the hotel for around $50. It is called Barbie Pink Tea Time in a Box.

Are There Any Options In The US?

Malaysia isn't exactly around the corner, so unless you were planning on being in the area anyway this is a tough ask. Is there anything similar in the US? Unfortunately not to this level, but I did uncover some things.

The Curtis Hotel in Denver has a room dedicated to Barbie and has for a while. It is one of the more unique looking Double Tree properties I have ever seen too. It has some other themed rooms too which ARE bookable with points.

There is a Barbie themed pop up in Chicago all summer for people to have a meal, or some drinks, decked out in Barbie pink.

There is a similar one set up in Manhattan as well.

Barbie Hotel Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur: ToP Thoughts

I did not expect to deep dive Barbie hotels and pop ups this week but here we are. I found the Barbie hotel Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur to be something interesting and it looks pretty amazing for Barbie fans. If you happen to be halfway across the world on your travels it may be worth checking out. I was glad to find some cool options closer to home for the Barbie fans out there too.
