Sapphire Reserve For Business℠ Card Review

Chase has long had some of the best business cards on the market, but the one thing they were missing was a premium business card. At least one that offers access to their beloved Ultimate Rewards points currency, travel perks and a large welcome offer. It looks like that is something Chase wanted to correct with the launch of the Sapphire Reserve For Business℠ card. It will offer you many perks, a unique earning structure and a large welcome offer. We will go over all of that, and more, in our Sapphire Reserve For Business℠ card review.

Welcome Offer

First up in our Sapphire Reserve Business card review is the welcome offer details:

  • Earn 150,000 Ultimate Rewards after you spend $20,000 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening.
  • The $795 annual fee is NOT waived
    • Additional employee cards are $0

It should also be noted that this card earns full blown Chase Ultimate Rewards points since it is a premium card. The card will unlock Chase Ultimate Rewards points, once combined in your Sapphire Reserve Business account, of the sibling Ink Business Cash® Credit Card and Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card as well.

Chase Application Rules

Like other Chase cards, you will not qualify for this card if you have opened more than 5 credit cards with any bank in the last 24 months. It is worth noting that since this card is a business card it will NOT add to your 5/24 count, but you do need to be under it to get the card.

Card Earning Rates

The Sapphire Reserve Business card comes with the following earning rates:

  • 8x on Chase Travel℠ bookings
  • 5x on Lyft rides (through 9/30/27)
  • 4x on hotels & flights booked directly
  • 3x on advertising on social media and search engines
  • 1x on everything else

The real win here is uncapped 3x earning on advertising for social media and search engines. There are a lot of businesses that spend a ton there and are constantly running up against earning caps in the category. Getting 4x on hotels and flights booked directly is a nice perk for road warriors too. It may make you reconsider using co-branded cards for those purchases.

ToP Analysis

We imagine that the Sapphire Reserve Business card will often have the largest welcome offer of their business card lineup. It is likely that the card will also require the largest amount of minimum spend because of it. That makes it suited for business owners who have a lot of spending available to them.

Earning Options

That is especially true if that spend is in travel or online advertising. Those two areas provide really great earning rates of 4x and 3x respectively. If you want to risk travel portal bookings, something we don't normally recommend, then you could bump your travel earnings up to 8x. If you are going to go down that route then airfare may be better than hotels. That's because you'll usually still earn frequent flyer miles, perks and get to take advantage of any status you may have with the airline. It doesn't usually work out that way for hotel bookings.

Credits Will Be Your Mileage May Vary

The Sapphire Reserve Business card comes with a ton of opportunity when looking at yearly and monthly credits. The problem is that they seem pretty niche, outside of the easy to use $300 travel credit at least. That makes it tough for us to recommend this card long term for people as a blanket statement. A lot will depend on if you use ZipRecruiter and Google Workspace etc. The Edit credit sounds very similar to the American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts program, but requires a two night stay instead of a one night stay. Requiring two nights will drive up the cost and lower the value some. If the hotels available match up with your travel needs then it might not be a problem though.

Southwest Card Perk
Should You Unlock Bonus Perks Via Spend?

On the surface the perks you receive after spending $120,000 on the card within a calendar year do not seem worth it. If you happen to earn it through your regular spend then that is great. We would not recommend altering spend in order to earn any of these bonus perks though.

What About Travel Perks?

The Sapphire Reserve Business card lacks the travel perks that a card with this level of annual fee should have accompanying it. Gaining access to the beautiful Sapphire Lounges is nice, but they only have a few of those. Priority Pass access is another perk that has been so diluted over the years that it is tough to get excited about. If they had added the restaurant access back for the Sapphire Reserve lineup of cards then I bet some ears would have perked up.

Sapphire Reserve For Business℠ Card Review: ToP Thoughts

Chase certainly has caught our attention with an eye popping welcome offer for the Sapphire Reserve Business card. What about after the first year though? Is this a card you value keeping long term? That will all depend on how useful the yearly and monthly credits are to you. Another consideration would be how much spending your business has in the high earning areas. It doesn't appear to be a slam dunk for everyone the way the personal version of the card was at launch all those years ago.
