New Amex Resy Credit Restrictions
Are some restaurants about to dash from Resy credit eligibility? It's possible, due to upcoming changes to some American Express cards' dining credits. American Express Gold and Platinum cardholders recently received notices in their accounts of new restrictions planned to start in August, according to Doctor of Credit. Worth as much as $400 per card per year, depending on which card(s) you hold, the Resy credits are a popular perk for award travelers. No need to panic just yet, though. Time will tell how limiting these changes will be in practice. Let's take a look at what we know so far about the new Amex Resy credit restrictions.

Which Cards Have Resy Credits?
Resy is an online restaurant reservation service. It's been around for over a decade, eventually acquired by Amex. The bank offers statement credits for Resy-affiliated restaurants as perks on several of its cards. The credit is much-lauded for being easy to use. After enrollment, it works for purchases at any U.S. restaurant linked to the platform. (See our full guide to Resy credits here.) Cardmembers can currently choose from more than 10,000 across the country. That's a much wider reacher than Chase Sapphire Reserve's newer partnership with OpenTable, which has credits that presently work for about 300 restaurants in select cities.
The Resy credits are available on:
- American Express® Gold Card: Up to $100 each calendar year, split into semiannual $50 credits
- American Express Platinum Card®: Up to $400 each calendar year, divided into quarterly $100 credits
Some Delta cards also have Resy credits, including a total of up to $120 each calendar year on the Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card and Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Business American Express Card; and up to $240 per year on the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card and Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card. We don't yet know whether the new Amex Resy credit restrictions will impact those cards.

What's Changing With Resy Credits?
Last week, some American Express Gold and Platinum cardholders saw the following notice appear on their statements about new Amex Resy credit restrictions:
- “Effective August 1, 2026, U.S. restaurants and other food and beverage establishments (e.g., wineries, cafes) must be indicated as eligible for the Resy Credit on the Resy website or the Resy app at the time of purchase to qualify for the benefit. Qualifying restaurants and other food and beverage establishments will be indicated as eligible on their booking page on the Resy website or the Resy app and are subject to change at any time.”
This could be a significant change, since currently the credits automatically work for any restaurant listed on Resy. While the full shift is still about six-and-a-half weeks away, it has already partially rolled out on the Resy website. Restaurants are now labeled with a banner indicating they “qualify” for the credit. But all Resy restaurants seem to show this label so far, since the August change is not in effect yet.

It's worth noting that Resy and Tock are merging this summer. Tock's collection of venues, eateries and wineries will soon join Resy. So this could simply be a necessary step to indicate which of the additions qualify and which don't, especially considering Tock boasts some high-end restaurants.
New Amex Resy Credit Restrictions: ToP Thoughts
Some have worried the Resy credit is about to “get Nerfed.” We don't cover rumors in ToP, so we won't speculate whether the new Amex Resy credit restrictions will turn out to be a devaluation and, if so, how large. But since these credits operate quarterly and semiannually, it might not be a bad idea to mark Aug. 1 on your calendar—and check off any uses for the credits you'd be sad to lose. Do you think this will impact how you use the credit? Tell us your thoughts over on the ToP Facebook group.
