International Options For Your Marriott 50,000 Point Certificates
I'm certainly someone who likes to redeem my Marriott free night certificates for maximum value. Typically, that means flying somewhere foreign. Requiring perfect timing of certificate expiration dates, work schedules, and weather, it can be a daunting task. Thankfully, the reward is worth the effort. Marriott's 50,000 point free night certificates can be quite valuable outside the United States. Let's take a look at some of my favorite redemption options around the world. Remember, you're able to top off 50,000 point certificates with up to 15,000 extra Marriott Bonvoy points, so nights up to 65,000 points are possible to book with these. #1. Abu Dhabi Edition
There are only a few Edition properties around the world open today. The brand is focused on luxury, more of an upscale W than a Ritz-Carlton. The Abu Dhabi Edition is built in the similar extravagance that everything is built with in the UAE. There's even a Michelin-starred dining experience on property.
The property can be pricey on points during the cooler months, more fit for an 85,000 point certificate. However, rooms can be found here last minute or during warmer months for 50,000 points. Note that Editions are excluded from the free breakfast benefits for Platinums and above.
#2. JW Marriott Rio de Janeiro
This JW opened in 2001, and is located on Copacabana Beach. If you're visiting Rio de Janeiro, this is one of the best areas to stay near. This JW Marriott features a beautiful rooftop pool with beach views, as well as an executive lounge for those with Platinum status or higher.
#3. W Mexico City
The W Mexico City is located in one of the best neighborhoods in Mexico City, Polanco. The W brand is stylish and hip, and matches the neighborhood perfectly. I think W's are most successful when they try and match the city that they exist in, and it feels like the W Mexico City delivers on that. Even better, most months had availability for nights priced under 65,000 points.
#4. St. Regis, Doha
St. Regis is one of Marriott's most luxurious brands. When my travels allow, I love redeeming my free night certificates at this brand. The St. Regis, Doha is a beach resort located north of the downtown area. It'll offer pretty amazing amenities, including a resort-style pool in addition to the beach.
St. Regis properties deliver full benefits to Marriott Bonvoy status holders, including free breakfast for Platinums and above. This will help keep trip costs down.
#5. The Santa Maria, A Luxury Collection Hotel & Golf Resort, Panama
Panama is a secretly amazing country to visit. It's also often a layover spot for those redeeming United miles on Copa Airlines. The Santa Maria is located close to the airport, in between it and downtown Panama City. While not on the water, it does feature lots of golf and resort-style pools, so it could be an excellent option for a longer layover.
