Delta Reserve Upgrade Offer
I guess American Express & Delta are not done with me yet. The card that has given me over 250,000 miles, all without a welcome offer, is back at it again. After taking a recent upgrade from the Delta Blue to Delta Gold I figured I was set for a while. That was until this new Delta Reserve upgrade offer hit my inbox this week. It isn't a slam dunk, but I am leaning towards taking it. Let's dive in to all of the details!

Here are the details for my Delta Reserve upgrade offer:
- Earn 35,000 Delta Skymiles and a $300 statement credit after spending $4,000 within the first 12 months of card membership.
- The $650 annual fee is NOT waived
Email subject line was: Special offer: 35,000 bonus miles + a $300 statement credit

Why I Am Leaning Towards Accepting
If we go just by face value then this looks pretty much like a wash. I would be paying $650 to get a $300 statement credit and then 35,000 Delta Skymiles, worth a little over $350. That is essentially paying $650 now to get a little bit more than $650 in value later. But, and it is a big but (hey now, get your head out of the gutter), that doesn't include the card perks.
While I don't think the Delta Reserve card has the most amazing perks, there are some that I could use. The most notable one, and the reason I am okay with a wash here, is the companion pass. I just used it to save around $450 for a flight for me and my daughter to California.
As for everything else, I already receive lounge access with my Amex Platinum and Business Platinum, but I guess more passes (since access is capped per year now) is a plus. I'll likely use a Resy credit or two, and a few of the rideshare credits, but that is about it. The value I plan on getting is all focused on the companion pass. Anything else I get along the way is just gravy. The best part is I can still keep the companion pass even if I downgrade or close the card after the 12 month clock is up. I want to be sure to hold it at least that long so I don't potentially lose the offer. I already have the 15% discount on award flights from my upgrade to Gold so I don't value that in this scenario.

Delta Reserve Upgrade Offer: ToP Thoughts
While this Delta Reserve upgrade offer is far from a slam dunk, it does make sense for me because of the perks I essentially get for a net zero cost. If I didn't have so many overlapping perks with other cards it may look like an even better value proposition. The real key here is that I have had the Delta Reserve card before, so I don't have to worry about giving up a potential welcome offer down the road because of it. Let me know if anyone else received this Delta Reserve upgrade offer over in the ToP Facebook Group.
