It’s back! One of Southwest’s most popular recurring promos has returned. Earn the Southwest Companion Pass after one flight. Once completed, you’ll start the new year with nearly two full months of this perk. To make it happen, you’ll need to book one qualifying round trip or two eligible one-way flights. If you need to book Southwest flights this fall anyway and are likely to travel with a friend or family member early in 2027, jump on this. UPDATE 8/6: Today is the last day to book eligible flights with this promotion. Don't forget to register first!

- Here’s how to earn the Southwest Companion Pass after one flight:
- Enroll in the promotion on the promo landing page
- Once registered, book a qualifying round trip or two qualifying one-way flights by this Thursday, 8/6/2026.
- Travel must be completed by 11/18/2026.
- Companion flies free (plus taxes and fees, starting from $5.60 one-way) with you from 1/5-3/3/2027.

To earn the Southwest Companion Pass after one flight, note these terms:
- After enrolling, you must book between Aug. 3, 2026, 8 a.m. CT and Aug. 6, 2026, 11:59 p.m. CT.
- Must be new bookings made during the promotion period and after registering.
- Travel must take place between Aug. 3 and Nov. 18, 2026.
- Must be booked directly through Southwest channels (Southwest.com, the Southwest app, SWABIZ, GDS, or Southwest Partner Services).
- You must include your Rapid Rewards number when booking. The qualifying flights must all be flown by the same Rapid Rewards member.
- Eligible fares include Basic, Choice, Choice Preferred, and Choice Extra.
- Award bookings qualify, as do Cash + Points bookings.
- Exclusions: Companion Pass reservations, charter flights, group travel and Getaways by Southwest packages.
- Changes are allowed during the promotional booking period as long as the travel still otherwise qualifies, but changes made after Aug. 6, 2026 may eliminate eligibility.
- The promotion is limited to one Companion Pass per Rapid Rewards member.
- You may change your designated companion up to three times while this promotional pass is active. But those changes do count toward your annual companion-change limit if you later earn a full Companion Pass in 2027.

Southwest Companion Pass After One Flight: ToP Thoughts
Kick off 2027 with nearly two full months of this popular perk. Naturally, the cutoff for qualifying flights is right before holiday travel—so you couldn’t fly for the holidays and double-dip it to earn Companion Pass. But if you do earn this perk, the timing when you’ll have the Companion Pass can be ideal. In early January, some who chase the Companion Pass this fall through credit card applications may not have qualified yet. It’s also a nice opportunity for families who may already have one Companion Pass and need another. Lastly, I love seeing Southwest continue to promote this perk at all—it helps quell at least some of the fears that this perk will one day go away with all of Southwest’s other big recent cultural shifts.
