Bilt Hyatt Status Matches To MGM Gold

We have been getting a lot of questions in the ToP Facebook group about if Bilt Hyatt status matches to MGM Gold. With the recent Bilt Rewards and World of Hyatt promotion many people have been gifted Hyatt Explorist status. That is noteworthy since normally Hyatt Explorist status matches to MGM Gold status. The perk people are chasing is that with MGM Gold status you get waived resort fees when booking directly with MGM. That can be a savings of $30 – $60 per night depending on the property.

What The Terms Of The Bilt & Hyatt Match Say

The problem is that Hyatt was on top of this and put it into the terms of the Bilt status match & challenge that matched Explorist status would not work for the Hyatt to MGM status match. Many of our industrious miles and points friends decided to give it a try anyway after their newly minted Hyatt Explorist status hit. Because of our experience with other promotions we know that what the terms say and how it works in reality are often not the same thing. This time around the brands had their backend figured out and the Hyatt to MGM status match was denied. That was because the World of Hyatt status on the account was not “earned”. My guess is that the system looks at the expiration date of the Hyatt status and bases it off of that.

Bilt Hyatt Status Matches To MGM Gold

There Is Still Hope

There appears to be a workaround for that though. We had a ToP Facebook member do their status match in person while in Vegas. You can do this at the MGM Rewards desk in any of their properties. My best guess is the MGM Rewards employee manually enters the status versus processing the match online. Our team member Rick did the match in person a few years back and all they had him do was show his Hyatt app that had the appropriate status on it.

Bilt Hyatt Status Matches To MGM Gold: ToP Thoughts

I am not sure if this works outside of Vegas at this point. (Update: we got a report of it working at MGM Detroit as well) My guess would be that local MGM properties are not aware of the Hyatt to MGM status match. If you have an upcoming trip to Vegas, or a local MGM property, and could use the status then this is worth a try. Especially if it helps you avoid the resort fees during your stay. I wouldn't book a room expecting this to work out, but if you planned on staying at an MGM property anyway it never hurts to try. It may just end up putting a nice chunk of change back into your gambling budget!
