Alaska Airlines launched new credit cards in 2025 to go along with launching the new Atmos program. Included in these new cards was the launch of the Atmos Rewards Summit card. As much love as the card gets, one of the most underrated perks of the card is the Atmos 25K Global Companion Award. We outline this value perk and how we used it for buy one, get one flights on American Airlines recently. If you can make it work, this award offers insane value.

That means you can use these awards on partner award bookings. You should also be able to ToP them off with miles in your accounts too, which makes this a 25K off any award flight deal. Love it! Here is a full FAQ about Atmos 25K Global Companion Awards.

What is Theoretically Possible

In theory, you can use an Atmos 25K Global Companion Award to fly buy one award ticket, get one award ticket 25,000 points off for any Alaska, Hawaiian or partner award flight in the world. You have twelve months from the date of issuance of the award to book the flight, but can book travel beyond the expiration date. The cardholder is not required to travel and can book for any two people they wish. Lastly, the award is valued up to the stated amount of the award and any unused portion is forfeited.

This all sounds really good and super valuable, right? If it all works as stated, this is 25,000 points each year for simply paying an annual fee. We set out to see how easy it is to apply this perk and test it out. Our results are below.

Using our 25K Global Companion Award for BOGO Domestic AA Flights

Luckily, Sarah and I travel together ~90% of the time. Also, our preferred domestic airline is American Airlines, since I have Executive Platinum status and our preferred airport is Washington Reagan National (DCA). As we regularly fly AA, and Atmos Rewards is part of Oneworld Alliance, I have plenty of opportunities to track award flights and see where I can get max value.

When flying American Airlines domestically via Alaska Airlines, you're subject to a distance-based award chart.

As you can see, when attempting to maximize the full 25,000 points, you're looking for AA flights of 1,401 to 4,000 miles in Business Class (Domestic First). Anything below this distance, or in economy or premium economy, is still a savings over buying two tickets, but will not fully maximize the 25,000 mile discount.

Our Experiences

Later this month, a couple hundred of us converge on Phoenix, Arizona for the ToP Meetup: PHX. Sarah & I already have flights in economy, booked with a fantastic good deal at 8,000 American Airlines miles each. But for a 5.5 hour flight, we would much prefer guaranteed Business/First seats. I began looking for domestic First awards on Alaska Airlines. Sure enough, there were 4 seats available on our flight for 25,000 miles (the flight distance is 2,075 miles) and $5.60 each!

Once I located the award space, I went into Sarah's award account and copied a code for the Atmos 25K Global Companion Award and re-ran the award search. The results were instant and the details were exactly as they should be. Our BOGO flight on AA was confirmed! Since the Atmos Summit card waives partner award booking fees, this itinerary cost 25,000 miles and $11.20 for the two of us in First Class.

Atmos 25K Global Companion Award: ToP Thoughts

Like any perk, the true value in the Atmos 25K Global Companion Awards is in the ease of use. I am happy to report that we encountered zero issues in searching and applying our awards. The entire process was straightforward and seamless and saved us 25,000 Atmos miles for the BOGO ticket. For the cost of the annual fee, the Atmos Summit card just paid for itself, as I would pay that annual fee to fly in First Class from Philadelphia to Phoenix any time I can get it!
