Freedom 5x Q2 Categories

One of our favorite cards, as well as the “OG” that is no longer open to new applications, earns 5x rewards on up to $1,500 per in select categories each quarter. Today, we learned the Q2 5x Categories for these 2 cards, the Freedom & Freedom Flex. The 5x earnings begin April 1, 2024.

Details of 5x Earnings

Technically, the Freedom Flex, and the Freedom OG (not open to new applications), earn 5% cashback on select categories per quarter, up to $1,500 spend. If you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve or a Chase Ink Business Preferred, that 5% is actually earned as 5x Ultimate Rewards. Each quarter, you must select the option to earn 5x in specific categories for the Freedom cards. Once activated, you will earn 5%/5x on up to $1,500 spend in those categories during the specified quarter.

Freedom Q2 Categories

For Q2 2024, April 1 – June 30, 2024, the Freedom Flex and Freedom OG earn 5%/5x on up $1,500 spend at:

5X Quarterly Earnings: ToP Thoughts

Earning 5x on spend is great, only really beaten by sign up bonuses and welcome offers. The Q2 Freedom 5x categories should be relatively easy for everyone. Amazon spend is easy for the average American family, as is restaurant and hotel spend. Note that restaurant spend should stack with the normal 3x/3% earnings on a Freedom Flex, for a total of 7x/7% earnings. For hotels, since you can earn 2-5x elsewhere (like an Ink Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, Citi Premier, or Amex Green), I would likely not use a Freedom for hotel spend, unless absolutely necessary.
