Uber announced it is acquiring the global chauffeur service Blacklane, with closing expected to occur by the end of 2026 once regulatory approvals are obtained. Blacklane offers a true chauffeur service with high-end vehicles and professional drivers. It will be interesting to see what happens with the $200 Blacklane credit available on the Citi Strata Elite card.
U.K. to Increase Air Passenger Duty on April 1 — Business Travel News (BTN) Europe
The U.K. is sharply increasing its Air Passenger Duty (a tax on flights leaving U.K. airports) on April 1. Long-haul flights (over 2,001 miles or 5,500 miles) are the hardest hit, with increases of £28 or £29 respectively.
Air France/KLM Hikes Fees on Award Tickets — Thrifty Traveler
Fees on award tickets jumped by $60 for a round trip in economy, and $100 each way for business class. While it isn't surprising to see surcharges increase with rising fuel costs, it was surprising that it jumped overnight without warning. And Air France is not the only carrier making these changes. Cathay Pacific already increased surcharges once, and it has announced another increase to take effect on April 1.
United to Launch ‘Relax Row' Lie-Flat Economy Seats — Forbes
United's fleet is adding first-of-its-kind lie flat seating in economy for U.S. domestic carriers labeled ‘Relax Row.' These seats will debut in 2027, and by 2030 they will be available on more than 200 planes including Boeing 787 and 777 widebody aircraft. I can see this being a great option for families traveling with small children, since it should provide more easy access to kids than a standard business class seat but more comfort than a single economy seat.
