Top 20 Hotels In North America

I always enjoy combing through best hotels lists. It often gives me ideas of places to stay and areas to visit I might have never noticed before. There is no doubt that these lists are highly subjective and should be taken with a grain of salt. It isn't like anyone can stay in all of the hotels in the world to give you a comprehensive list anyway. And even if they did, it would still be subjective to their tastes. Now that we got all of that out of the way let's have some fun with Fodor's Travel's top 20 hotels in North America list.

Who Made The Cut?

Here is a list of every property that made the top 20 hotels in North America list (HT KDVR)

Top 20 Hotels In North America

Which Of These Are Bookable With Points?

That is an interesting list for sure. It has some I am a bit surprised to see, like Palmer House in Chicago. The real question is how many of these 20 can you actually book with points though? Or, are they all boutique independently owned hotels? I poked around each and came up with some that are options for us points lovers. It wasn't as easy as I would have liked with all of these random partnerships etc. If I ended up missing one that is a points option please let me know.

Marriott Bonvoy

Here are some Marriott properties that made the top 20 hotels in North America.

  • The Tampa Edition in Tampa, Florida
    • The rooms cost 88K – 120K a night depending on going rates
  • The Dorian in Calgary, Alberta, Canada
    • The rooms look to be in the 40K – 50K range
Choice Hotels

Choice Hotels actually has access to one of these via their partnership with Preferred Hotels. You do need to call to book Preferred Hotels.

Accor Hotels

While Accor Hotels is a transfer partner of Capital One and Citi it isn't considered much. They give you a discount off your room for points in 2,000 point chunks. So the cost for the room will depend on the cash price.

Hilton Hotels

Here are some Hilton properties that made the top 20 hotels in North America.

  • Palmer House, A Hilton Hotel in Chicago, Illinois
    • The standard rate fluctuates from 50K – 70K a night. The cash prices can be reasonable here too so check that.
  • Umbral, Curio Collection in Mexico City, Mexico
    • The standard rate is in the 40K – 50K a night range.
Leading Hotels Of The World

The newest transfer partner to hit the market is Leading Hotels of the World. If you have Citi ThankYou points this program could be of interest even at the 5 ThankYou points to 1 Leading Hotels of the World point because they can be very valuable.

Top 20 Hotels In North America: ToP Thoughts

This was a fun exercise to see what can be done at some of these properties with points. Getting 7 out of 20 available via points is pretty good, and much better than I thought it would be. There are some more off the beaten path options mixed in there but it just goes to show why we always stress transferrable currencies at ToP. It opens a ton more doors for you. It is also why it is worth checking out our ToP Partner Transfer Tool every so often so you are aware what is possible with the points you have.

Have you stayed at any of these hotels before? Let me know over in the ToP Facebook Group.
