Search Southwest On Google Flights

A day that I never thought would come is now here, you can now search Southwest on Google Flights when checking flights (first reported by Thrifty Traveler). I was always skeptical that this would happen because Southwest sues anyone that shows their flights elsewhere into oblivion. I never much understood limiting your exposure, but Southwest is stuck in 80's technology hell, so maybe it was just jealousy? Whatever the cause, I hope it is here to stay, because it will make checking prices for all airlines on your desired route so much easier. No more checking Google Flights and then needing to go to Southwest's site to compare prices!

Searching Google Flights

As you can see above, I did a quick Google Flights search to see the new greatness myself. I, of course, picked the dates and city for the next ToP Seminar. In the past I would have only seen the United and American Airlines options as the best available to me, and then I would have had to go to Southwest's site to check their prices too. That is if I remembered to even do it. This takes a bit of the guess work out of domestic and some international flights.

Knowing that Southwest will populate, when they have a competitive offer on the route, makes life easier for sure. I can also estimate the cost of the flight in Southwest Rapid Rewards points, since they will be in the 1.3 or 1.4 cents per point range. This $311 flight would likely be somewhere in the 22,000 – 24,000 points range.

Search Southwest On Google Flights: ToP Thoughts

I love that you can now search Southwest on Google Flights now. It allows us to do all of our work in one place to get started. From there I can pick the flight with the best times and price and then check to see if there is a decent award available too. No more needing to check Southwest every time on their own just to see how it compares. At least not as long as they don't sue to fight it!
