Lowe's Gift Card Deal

There is a new Lowe's gift card deal that I think is going to be mighty popular for people starting April 1st. Why April 1st you ask? Because that is when the new quarter starts and Lowe's is a second quarter option for Chase Freedom cards. That means this is deal stacking time so strap on your points earning boots and let's get to work!

Updated 4/3/23: Shared my experience and some tips & tricks below.

Lowe's Gift Card Sale Offer Details

Here are the details of the offer:

  • Get a $15 Lowe's gift card when purchasing a $200 Mastercard
  • The Mastercard likely has a $7.95 fee which gives you a positive return of $7.05, assuming you value Lowe's credit similar to cash.

Offer Terms

Here are the relevant terms for the offer:

  • Valid until 4/5/23
  • Limit 2 per e-mail address
  • $15 must be claimed by 4/19/23

The Mastercard gift cards are sold in store. Then you enter the numbers on the back of the package online after the purchase to get the Lowe's gift card.

It should be noted that these are Pathward / Metabank gift cards which some people have been having issues with. If you use them as credit instead of debit you shouldn't have a problem though.

My Experience Using The Offer

I figured I would share my experience using this offer after the weekend. I did 3 x $400 transactions across my 3 Freedom cards. The self check out wouldn't allow me to make the purchase, and I think it depends on what kind of self checkout system your store has. I was able to purchase them with the self checkout employee at his terminal though.

Lowe's used to have lower end velocity limits on gift cards, but I didn't run into any problems buying $1,200 over a few minute interval, so maybe that has been increased. I did the purchases as 2 cards per receipt to make it easier but I think doing more than that two cards on one receipt MAY work. I wouldn't risk it myself though.

Once I got home I filled out the card info online, which was really easy. You have to do it one card at a time but you get the Lowe's gift card instantly. The directions on which numbers to put in are not the best. They are located on the back of the gift cards and it is just the ones on the right side that are needed. I highlighted the numbers needed here.

If you don't have a use for the Lowe's gift cards it looks like you should be able to sell them online for 85% or better. That is $12.50 per card which is more than the $7.95 fee you are charged for each Mastercard gift card. So 5x earning with your Freedom card AND a little profit if you go this route. I used to sell to Cardcash online, but haven't in 4 or 5 years. I can't vouch for them anymore, since I haven't used them in so long, but a site like that should be an option if you don't work with a gift card buyer directly already. Most of the the individual gift card buyers probably don't want to deal with $15 cards anyway.

ToP Thoughts

I wasn't too excited about this quarter since I can earn 5x on Amazon any time I want and didn't have any big projects where Lowe's would be useful. This is a deal that should help me eat up some of our Freedom cards' cap for the second quarter at least. People have had success in the past using different emails addresses to do this more than once per person.

Good luck and happy earning! Just remember to wait till April 1st if you want to stack this with the Freedom 5x earning.
