Octant Douro The Edit Booking
For my trip to Portugal last week, I had a goal: I wanted to burn all The Edit credits available on one of the two Chase Sapphire Reserve cards in our household. We followed up our stay at the InterContinental Lisbon with one at Octant Douro, a wine- and wellness-focused retreat. I really wanted to use one of these credits for the Porto part of our trip, since the region doesn’t have any Hyatt properties other than those bookable via Mr & Mrs Smith. While Octant Douro is technically located in Raiva, which is about an hour drive from the city of Porto, this off-the-beaten-path property really caught my eye. It's a super sleek hillside property overlooking Portugal's Douro River. It seemed like a good place to wind down after two fast-paced weeks of traveling between European cities. How We Booked: The Edit Cost + VIP Perks
Because we were traveling as party of three, I selected a Deluxe Mountain View – King room, one of the room options that allowed for an occupancy of three adults. I reached out to the property by email afterward just to double check that they could add a second bed to the room. I also inquired about parking, since we'd have a rental car, which they confirmed would be free. We also received the perks associated with The Edit bookings. At Octant Douro, that included several welcome amenities (wine, straw fedoras, a tote bag and sleeping kits), a $100 property credit and daily breakfast. While we were allowed to check in about an hour early, but our late checkout request was pending availability and was ultimately declined. I should note that Octant Douro is also a Mr & Mrs Smith property. That means it also bookable via World of Hyatt, and all rates actually include breakfast. The cash cost for two nights in our room type would have been $1,413.48 via Chase Travel. We decided to pay with a mix of cash plus points. Our Room at the Octant Douro
Octant Douro’s interiors are equal parts modern and rustic, with crisp white and gray linens, midcentury modern furniture and tons of floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the river. The property has 59 rooms—four of which are suites—and 20 villas. Our Deluxe Mountain View – King room was about 400 square feet, which was plenty of space for the King bed, the extra bed, all of our luggage, and even a folding dinner table room service brought us late one night after we’d missed the restaurant dinner. The bathroom had double sinks, a walk-in shower and a separate bath. My only complaint was that the walk-in shower was on the small side and was pretty tight.My favorite detail was probably the floor-to-ceiling window and sleek window shades that we could open and close by remote control each morning and evening.
Amenities at the Octant Douro
There are two panoramic outdoor pools, and they're easily among the most Instagrammable, enjoyable spots at the hotel. Guests also enjoy access to the spa, which has an indoor heated pool that is open 24 hours, a sauna, a Turkish bath, sensation shower, as well as treatment rooms. The gym is also open around-the-clock. Octant Douro has a long list of activities and experiences that you can book via the front desk. Think: wine and cheese tastings, boat trips on the Douro and curated picnics. Most of them are expensive, but there were a few inexpensive options like kayaking and paddleboarding.
Dining
Octant Douro actually uses the term “gastronomy” on its website rather than dining, so you know you're in so for some fancy, elevated food. The hotel has two main restaurants: À TERRA and RAIVA. À TERRA is the more casual of the two, with a menu built around seasonal ingredients and Portuguese flavors. RAIVA is the hotel's fine-dining restaurant and was included in the 2026 Michelin Guide. It is known for multi-course dining experiences, but unfortunately was operating on limited schedule and was not open during our visit. Our daily complimentary breakfast was served inside À TERRA, and it was extensive. The buffet included eggs, meats and cheeses, a carving station, pastries, a butter spread, a juice bar, Champagne and much more. We were also allowed to select a la carte dishes from a menu that included omelettes, crepes, salads and gourmet toasts. The Terrace Pool restaurant also serves casual bites and was evening grilling late into the evenings during our stay. We managed to stretch our $100 property credit across a light lunch from À TERRA for two one day, and a late-night room service meal for two on another night. We really enjoyed all of the food and thought it brought great value to our Edit booking.
Thoughts on the Octant Douro's Location
Octant Douro is in Raiva, Castelo de Paiva. It took us about an hour to get to by car from Porto. If you’re booking, one important thing to note is that this hotel is that despite its name, it is really not in the true heart of the famous Douro Valley wine region. If you want to be in the thick of all the vineyards, you’ll still have to drive. The property is built into a hillside on the banks of the Douro River, which makes for a stunning setting. But because of the remoteness of the location, we found that the hotel itself was really the draw. While there are several things to do nearby, liking hiking the Paiva Walkways or heading to the river beaches, this is one of those places where I wouldn't feel guilty about having absolutely zero sightseeing plans.
Where Else Octant Douro Shines
We love, love loved the hotel's architecture, decor and collection of midcentury-style furniture. Octant Douro is built directly into the hillside using stone and glass, and you can climb lots of steep stone staircases throughout the property. There's also a cozy, mauve-toned library with a fireplace, stacks of interesting coffee table books and, of course, more river views.
Would I Stay At Octant Douro Again?
I think two nights was the exact sweet spot this property, making it my ideal use for a $250 Edit credit. It was a good amount of time to spend enjoying the property and its amenities, away from the bustle of Porto. We stayed here for two nights and then returned to Porto to enjoy our last day in Europe and get rid ready for our flight. If I returned, I would book a wine tasting and tour or a boat tour—or both.

My Octant Douro The Edit booking checked all the boxes I wanted from one of our last nights in Europe: gorgeous views, good food and a setting where every activity overlooks a pool or river. I was working through most of this part of the trip, and Octant Douro was the perfect atmosphere for that: private with minimal distractions. It is truly the kind of place where you just go with the flow. And I mean that literally—whether you’re swimming in the pool, floating in a boat down the river or pouring a glass of port wine the Douro Valley is so famous for.
