Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay Quick Thoughts
We wanted to start up a new series called quick thoughts for mini property reviews. These are to pair up with ToP team member more in depth Facebook Group posted reviews. We figure these write ups would give you a little more detail outside of the ToP Facebook Group review, would be a bit easier to find if you want to come back to it and give you a more well rounded view of the property. This time around we will sharing Shira's Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay quick thoughts.
What Was The Cost Of Booking The Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay & Do You Think There Is Value In The Price?
The Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay went from a category 3 to a category 4 hotel with the most recent award chart changes. That means it now has the following costs in points per night:
- 12,000 World of Hyatt points for off-peak stays
- 15,000 World of Hyatt points for standard stays
- 18,000 World of Hyatt points for peak stays
Luckily it was an off-peak stay when we were there which only cost us 12,000 World of Hyatt points for the night.
Share Some Thoughts On Your Room: What Did You Like About It & What Could Be Improved?
The room could use a bit of a refresh and basic amenities that are typically present at a Grand Hyatt were absent. The standard rooms are on the small side, but the corner rooms are a much better size. The casitas (bookable with a suite upgrade award) are large and have lots of space. On the more positive side of things, power outlets were easily accessible and ample.
Highlight Some Of The Better Amenities The Property Offers & Is It Missing Anything Important?
There are two pools at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay, which is nice. One is located off the main hotel and the other is near the casitas. The casita pool has much more of a resort feel whereas the pool at the main hotel has much more of a conference hotel feel. Have no fear though, there is bar service at both pools. The hotel has a decent gym with a variety of equipment as well as bottles of water, a water bottle filler, and cold towels.
Globalist breakfast was either an item off of the menu or the buffet (when open). The buffet was pretty ample when that is an option. The order off the menu items were hit and miss – with the chilaquiles being a miss and the shrimp and grits being a hit.
What Was Your Favorite Thing About The Property?
The casita pool with its poolside service from Oystercatchers. Oystercatchers, one of the on-site restaurants, also has a great happy hour including $1 oysters. When the boardwalk is repaired, that will be absolutely lovely.
What Was Your Least Favorite Thing About The Property?
Unfortunately, the hotel had difficulties with service recovery when there were issues. It was apparent that front desk staff were not given leeway to handle issues and management were not invested enough to quickly fix issues without pushback. This led to some frustrations during our stay.
Would You Stay At The Property Again?
Probably not. I struggle if it was worth the extra points over the nearby Hyatt Place and Hyatt House, which is located Downtown Tampa. The full service amenities that I expected were simply lacking at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay.
