Use Your Amex CLEAR Credits and Earn 5,000 United Miles

If you're traveling through one of the 59 airports with CLEAR+, you may be wondering what it is and why it exists. It's a separate service from TSA Pre-Check that uses facial recognition and a separate line to theoretically save you time at the airport. In the past, the service has run a few promotions for new sign-ups, and until November 28, 2025, new members can earn 5,000 United Miles for signing up. Even better, this promotion can pair nicely with your Amex CLEAR credits, if you have the right card. Let's dig into the details of the promotion.

What is CLEAR+?

CLEAR+ provides expedited security at 59 airports across the country. You can pair CLEAR+ with your TSA Pre-Check membership to scan your face instead of showing your ID, and skip to the front of the normal Pre-Check line to begin clearing security. The service regularly costs $209 per year, in addition to any TSA Pre-Check or Global Entry membership you might opt to join.

This post won't go into the pros and cons of CLEAR+, but if you have the right Amex card, you can sign up for the service each year for free. So, if it's not costing you anything extra, it might be something to consider for your travels.

CLEAR+ and Amex

There are five cards issued by Amex that offer a $209 credit annually for CLEAR+ membership. They are:

To utilize the credit, you'll need to start the account process online or at the airport. After you do that, pay with your card. The credit will come off your statement in 6-8 weeks, but likely sooner than that. The card used will be charged each year for the service.

CLEAR+ United Offer

The current offer with United has the following details:

  • Offer available 10/28/25-11/28/25
  • Eligible for new Clear+ members only
  • Global Services members are ineligible for this promotion (that's because they already receive CLEAR+)
  • Your CLEAR+ membership will automatically renew each year for an additional 12-month period at a complimentary or preferred rate, if eligible, based on your United MileagePlus program status at the time of renewal.
  • CLEAR will notify you thirty (30) days before your card is charged for renewal. At the time of renewal, the relevant fees will be charged to the credit card provided during registration, or if different, the credit card associated with your CLEAR account at that time.

United members also receive preferred pricing for CLEAR+, in case you don't have an Amex card mentioned above. Here are the rates, dependent on status:

  • United Global Services members: Free annual Membership
  • Premier® 1K® members: $129 annual Membership ($70 savings off the standard CLEAR+ rate)
  • Premier Platinum/Gold/Silver members and United U.S. Credit Card members: $169 annual Membership ($40 savings off the standard CLEAR+ rate)
  • MileagePlus members: $199 annual Membership ($10 savings off the standard CLEAR+ rate)

Overall, it's nice to receive a discount just for having a United account.

CLEAR+ United Offer: ToP Thoughts

I receive a complimentary CLEAR+ membership through my Hilton Aspire card each year. While it's a “nice to have” in certain situations, the fact is, my home airport in Phoenix rarely has a long line at Pre-Check. I've found it useful in airports like Orlando, where people who rarely travel visit. Still, if I had to pay for CLEAR+, I'd elect not to. If I hadn't signed up for an account yet and had one of the Amex cards mentioned in this post, you bet I'd take advantage of the 5,000 free United miles.
