As the second quarter comes to a close it is time to start looking forward to the 5% / 5x reset for the Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex cards. You will soon have a new chance to rack up 7,500 Ultimate Rewards points. The Chase Freedom 3rd quarter bonus categories are here, let's take a look.
Bonus Categories For 3rd Quarter 2023
The categories for this upcoming quarter are as follows (5x earning on your first $1,500 in spend from all 3 combined):
- Gas
- EV (Electric Vehicle) charging
- Select live entertainment
- Merchants in this category sell tickets for live in-person entertainment such as:
- major sporting events
- zoos and aquariums
- concerts
- theatrical productions
- museums
- tourist attractions and exhibits
- amusement parks
- circuses
- carnivals
- bands
- entertainers
- Ticket agencies selling on behalf of the entertainment venue are included
- Some merchants that sell tickets for in-person entertainment are not included in this category:
- movie theaters
- bowling alleys
- horse racing tracks
- casinos
- dance hall/clubs
- purchasing from a hotel/concierge is not included nor excursions or purchases as part of a travel package.

My Plans For This Quarter
Gas is probably my favorite quarter because we drive quite a bit and because I have Speedway locations all around me, which has a great rewards program of their own. Some 7-11 locations are set up as gas stations too which is great if you love their Slurpee's and nachos like I do.
