Amex Retention Offers Phone Number
Every savvy award traveler knows to call the bank for a retention offer when an annual fee posts. This is especially important with Amex, which is by far the most generous with retention offers. Most of us typically call the number on the back of the card or reach out via chat. But, on a recent retention offer call, a super helpful rep gave me a direct Amex retention offers phone number.
Amex Retention Offer Direct Number Details
Instead of calling the number on the back of your card, just dial 800-875-5592. This number bypasses the frontline Amex reps who always end up having to transfer you to the retention department. I find it quite annoying to have to explain to two reps that I am considering cancelling my card but want to check for retention offers. Thankfully, this phone number avoids that.
Update 7/10/23: There is a another number that MEAB reported to work as well – 866-376-4552.
When you call the number above, the system prompts you to enter your full card number. I really liked this feature because it helps the rep know exactly which card you're calling about. After dialing my card number, I waited on hold for a couple of minutes and a rep from the retention department picked up. From there, the conversation was the typical retention offer discussion.
Why Call Instead Of Use The Chat Feature?
One of the nice things about Amex retention offers, especially if you have an unwilling spouse or significant other, is that you can get them via the Amex chat feature too. You just need to be logged into your online account and open up the chat function. You need to reach out during normal business hours to be transferred to the retention offer department. If you can get your offers via this route then why call the Amex retention offers phone number at all? Some people prefer it and with this direct line it may be quicker from start to finish now. Via chat you still need to deal with the front line employees first.
The other big reason is some people believe phone reps have access to different offers. So some will try chat first and if nothing good comes of it they will try their luck by calling in. That is where this direct line phone number can come in really handy.
Amex Retention Offers Phone Number: ToP Thoughts
Amex is usually very generous with retention offers, so calling or chatting with Amex is almost always worth a try. Now that we can bypass the frontline Amex reps, the process is even easier! When your next annual fee hits on an Amex card, make sure to call 800-875-5592 instead of dialing the number on the back of your card and save yourself some time.
