Bilt Rent Payments With A Credit Card

One of the best features of the Bilt ecosystem is being able to pay your rent with no fee and still earn points. That is if you have a Bilt Mastercard at least. Well, now they are rolling out Bilt rent payments with a credit card to all app users. There is one catch, there is a fee attached to it going this route. Because of that it won't always make sense, and there may be better options elsewhere, but we'll get to all of that in a bit.

Bilt Rent Payment Options

This was first noticed by T_Q_L on Reddit and covered by DDG (picture above is from Danny the Deal Guru). The option appeared when they were going to make their regular rent payment with the Bilt Mastercard via the Bilt Rewards app. My understanding is that this should be available to all Bilt Rewards app users once you set up a payment target. The big difference is the fee though, at a not so small 3%.

Comparing The Two Options

If you are making payments with the Bilt Mastercard then you earn 1X point per dollar on up to $100,000 in rent payments every year. There is no fee for payments when you go this route too.

If you make a payment with another credit card, linked in your Bilt Rewards app, then it will come with a 3% fee. You will also earn 250 points for the payment, which is like $4 or $5 in value back. The real key is that you can earn points with your credit card for the charge. If you are working on a welcome offer then this may make sense. That is because the earning would far outweigh the fee to process the payment. It appears that this only works on ACH payments. Bilt Mastercard cardholders are still the only ones able to make a payment via a rent check. If that changes let me know though.

Bilt Rent Payments With A Credit Card: ToP Thoughts

We will be covering some other options for rent payments which may make more sense in the future, but it is always good to have options. This may even be cheaper than what your current landlord offers in terms of credit card fees. If it is, and you were using rent payments to help with welcome offers, then this could work well for you. Getting the 250 Bilt Rewards points is just icing on the cake too.

If you have the Bilt Mastercard you would be better off using that, as long as you didn't really need the help on spend for a different card. That is because there is no fee and you still earn 1x valuable Bilt Rewards points on that payment.
