Amex Platinum Entertainment Credit

In the most recent round of Amex Platinum card statements American Express snuck a little nugget of negativity (at least for some). They were tricky and buried in that wording on the back of like page 5 that most no one reads. Okay, to be fair, it was digitally on the back of some page but you get the point. The verbiage was about some changes coming to the Amex Platinum entertainment credit that your receive for the personal version of the card. This will be a big negative change for some, as far as the $20 monthly credit goes, and a nothing burger for others. The change is that they will be removing SiriusXM as an option in the near future, which is a second such change in the last few months.

What Is The Entertainment Credit?

Here is the breakdown of the Amex Platinum entertainment credit from our full card review:

  • SiriusXM (this one is walking the green mile as we speak)
  • The Wall Street Journal

Enrollment is required for this benefit.

Amex Platinum Entertainment Credit

What Is Changing?

Here is what it said in the statement per Danny the Deal Guru:

We are updating the partners participating in the $240 Digital Entertainment Credit benefit for which eligible purchases made by Basic and Additional Card Members on the Account can earn up to $20 in statement credits per month, for a total of up to $240 per calendar year in statement credits across all Cards on the Account.

Effective May 8, 2024, SiriusXM will be removed from the benefit and purchases at SiriusXM on or after May 8, will no longer be eligible for the benefit.

Enrollment is required to receive the benefit. Please note, enrollment may take up to 24 hours to take effect on your Card. All eligible purchases made directly with participating partners at Disney+, ESPN, HULU, NYT, Peacock, and WSJ.”

Amex Platinum Entertainment Credit – ToP Thoughts

This is the second option that has been dropped from the Amex Platinum entertainment credit list in the last 6 months. If you remember, Audible was removed as an option in October of last year. I feel like that was the bigger loss for many. Having said that, there are still SiriusXM listeners out there that will not be happy about this no doubt. On the bright(er) side, at least it wasn't one of the streaming options I guess. Which is where I imagine a majority of these credits are burned. We will have to wait and see if American Express adds anything new as an option after these back to back negative changes for the entertainment credit.
