Sofitel Beach Resort Moorea Quick Thoughts

We're back with another quick thoughts/mini hotel review. French Polynesia was a dream destination for me, and we finally got to visit in late October 2025. The Sofitel on Moorea was our very first stop. There were a lot of things to like about this property and after a renovation that's happening right now, I think it will be even better. Here's our Sofitel Beach Resort Moorea quick thoughts.

What Was The Cost Of Our Sofitel Kia Ora Beach Resort Booking & Is There Is Value In The Price?

Since this property is part of Accor, you can use your ALL Rewards to offset the cash rate. The ALL program fixes points redemptions at €40 per 2,000 ALL rewards. This works out to €0.02 per ALL rewards. Depending on the USD-Euro exchange rate at any given time, this is roughly equal to $0.022-.03 cents per point. Because of this redemption structure, you do not need to redeem your points in advance or worry about points availability for your stay. An overwater bungalow was part of my French Polynesian dreams. So, we reserved a Superior Overwater Bungalow through the Travel on Point(s) travel agency. Our rate included some additional amenities for booking through a travel advisor. Thanks to a Bilt Rent Day promotion that matched my Bilt status to Accor, I had Accor Gold status benefits as well.

We booked three nights for approximately $1,375 total.

Some Thoughts On The Room: What I Liked About It & What Could Be Improved

Upon arrival I was excited to learn that we were upgraded to an even better overwater bungalow type. This one that had an unobstructed view across the water and a private plunge access straight into the water. The coral formations around our room were absolutely stunning. Surprisingly, it was easier to admire them from our private porch than it was snorkeling.

That being said, the interior of the room was nothing special. The furniture all showed obvious signs of wear, and the bathroom felt dated. The allure of the bungalow is the overwater concept itself, and on that front it certainly delivered. Because of that, the price felt justified even if it wasn't the most luxurious room.

What Are Some Of The Better Amenities The Property Offers & Is It Missing Anything Important?

The beach, main pool area, and lagoon are highlights of this property. The coral at the Sofitel is famous as some of the best in all of French Polynesia. Based on what I saw, I'd have to agree.

The food in the restaurant was acceptable, but not particularly well-executed. The property has two main restaurants, one serving all three daily meals and then a fine dining restaurant open only for dinner. There is also a bar/lounge where we opted to eat dinner two of the nights of our stay. The offerings were similar to the main restaurant but offered in a more casual atmosphere. There is also a beach bar by the pool.

The upcoming renovations, some which began while we were there, undoubtedly impacted our stay. The spa was closed for renovations so spa services were unavailable. The lobby was relocated from its own building to the main building with the restaurants during that time as well.

What Was Your Favorite Thing About The Property?

The beach and lagoon and coral were simply amazing. The property itself needed a refresh, including our room, so I am glad that they were actively working on renovations during our stay.

The property also seemed family-friendly. We observed several families there with children in the 5-10 age range and a few larger family groups as well.

What Was Your Least Favorite Thing About The Property?

Overall, the room and amenities weren't as nice as you would expect for a property of this caliber. Everything just seemed dated and worn. I'm optimistic that the renovations will breathe new life into the tired parts of the property.

Would I Stay At The Sofitel Kia Ora Beach Resort Again?

I would certainly stay at this property again, especially as a launching point for visiting more of Moorea. The overwater bungalow offered privacy and a unique experience and the location is simply beautiful. I would love to return to explore. The ability to redeem ALL Rewards to offset the cash price makes this redemption an easy one. This is especially true as long as cash prices don't increase exponentially.

Sofitel Beach Resort Moorea Quick Thoughts: ToP Thoughts

How can you complain about an overwater bungalow experience in a place as beautiful as French Polynesia? While the Sofitel Beach Resort Moorea could use a refresh, its location and coral reefs are unparalleled. It was a truly relaxing and peaceful way to start our trip and I would gladly return again.
