People often ask how to mix and match different payment options on hotel bookings. You might want to combine a free night certificate with points on one booking. Hotels do not make this easy most of the time. Instead, you may book separate nights and then reach out to the hotel. You can ask them to link them or connect them on the backend. Often, you will not see that reflected in the booking itself, but the hotel knows based on its system. Fortunately, Hyatt has its own system in place that travelers can access to combine payment types. While it's not perfect and it doesn't show for every property, you can try using Hyatt Pay My Way.
What Is Pay My Way?
Hyatt Pay My Way is a system that allows you to book a Hyatt stay with a variety of payment methods, including cash, points and free night certificates. There are situations where you do not want to use this, which we will cover below. It is worth a reminder that unfortunately, this does not show up for every property. You could also reach out to Hyatt directly to see if they can do the booking. Finally, you can always just do the separate bookings method mentioned above.
How To Use Pay My Way
As I mentioned, this system is not perfect. But here are the steps to see if you can use Hyatt Pay My Way.
Step 1: Search for a hotel as a cash booking:
Step 2: Chose your rate, which you want to be the “standard rate.” Choosing this will give you the Pay My Way option, if available.

This is where it is worth noting that the standard cash rate is often higher than what you would pay otherwise. If booking with cash, options for AAA or member rates are often lower. This means the best use of Hyatt Pay My Way is for booking points and certificates. Another often-overlooked item is that you cannot stack awards with Hyatt. Meaning if your stay includes a free night certificate, you cannot also apply a suite upgrade (SUA) or club access award (CAA). Finally, on the points + cash options, always do the math. Sometimes these rates can be good, but often the math may not make sense.

It is not perfect by any means, but Hyatt Pay My Way does give you an option to look into. Being able to split payment methods and use points and awards on a hotel booking can be useful—as long as you know the times it is most useful, plus some of the other rules.
