Hyatt New Hotel Promotion Changes
Hyatt made a big change to its new hotel promotion on October 1, 2026. For many award travelers, this will amount to another devaluation. Previously, you could earn 500 bonus points per night at eligible new Hyatt properties, including on eligible award stays. Now, World of Hyatt members can instead earn double points—but only on specific paid rates. That means that while some cash stays can earn more, award stays and other ineligible rates won’t earn anything at all through the promo. Let’s take a look at the Hyatt new hotel promotion changes to see how the offer works now, when it’s worth booking and a potential sweet spot to consider.

How Does the Hyatt New Hotel Promotion Work Now?
The Hyatt new hotel promotion changes now require booking the designated rate at a participating property. Only base points are doubled; elite and credit card bonuses are not. The extra earnings are bonus points, capped at 25,000 per qualifying stay. Check Hyatt’s current participating-property list and the rate terms for your dates before booking. Other key terms include:
- Must be a World of Hyatt member when booking and staying, and provide your membership number.
- Check in during the hotel’s offer period.
- Earn Hyatt points rather than airline miles.
- Eligible room charges and incidentals count toward the bonus.
- Up to three rooms qualify, including the one you occupy.
- Consecutive nights count as one stay, even if you check out and back in.
- Availability is limited; cancellation and deposit policies vary.
- Previously booked or held stays are excluded. Combining offers is prohibited unless expressly permitted.
- Allow two to four weeks after checkout for bonus points to post.

Hyatt Double Points vs. the Old 500-Point Bonus
The old promotion awarded 500 bonus points per night on qualifying paid stays and free night redemptions. No separate registration was required. That made it an easy extra reward. A four-night eligible award stay earned 2,000 bonus points without increasing your cash spending.
Following the Hyatt new hotel promotion changes, the replacement promo now requires a paid promotional rate, so that same award booking loses its new-hotel bonus. It also only works for some rates. Previously, you could select an eligible rate that suited your trip and receive the nightly bonus. Now, finding a participating hotel is only the first step. You also need to compare the promotional rate against your other options. For travelers like us, who primarily redeem points for Hyatt stays, this is a clear downgrade.

When Is the Hyatt Double Points Offer Better?
Most Hyatt hotels award 5 base points per eligible dollar. Hyatt Studios awards 2.5. That means the Hyatt new hotel promotion changes add 5 bonus points per eligible dollar at most properties, or 2.5 at Hyatt Studios. The following examples assume a one-night stay, no eligible incidental spending and no monetary difference between the promotional rate and the rate you would otherwise book.
| Eligible nightly spending | Old nightly bonus | New bonus at most Hyatt hotels | Difference |
| $75 | 500 | 375 | 125 fewer points |
| $100 | 500 | 500 | Same bonus |
| $150 | 500 | 750 | 250 more points |
| $250 | 500 | 1,250 | 750 more points |
| $500 | 500 | 2,500 | 2,000 more points |
At most properties, $100 in eligible spending per night matches the old bonus. (At Hyatt Studios, that threshold rises to $200. A $100 Hyatt Studios night earns just 250 promotional bonus points—half the old reward.) Those thresholds compare points earned, however. They do not establish whether the promotional rate is a good deal. Paying more for the room can erase the advantage.

Finding a Sweet Spot: Sapporo Example
Following the Hyatt new hotel promotion changes, you’ll want to closely study rates at eligible hotels. Hyatt’s official opening announcement for Hyatt Centric Sapporo advertises a new hotel member bonus offer that is actually worth more than just the double points:
- A 17% discount for World of Hyatt members.
- Daily breakfast for each registered guest.
- A JPY3,000 hotel credit per room, per stay.
- Double points on eligible spending.
The advertised booking deadline is October 31, 2026, for qualifying stays from October 3 through December 31, 2026. Confirm the package and restrictions for your dates. This is a more promising offer because the discount and included benefits may provide value before you even count the points. Still, a percentage discount does not prove it is the lowest available price. Compare the same room and cancellation policy across available rates. Breakfast also matters less if you would already receive it through Globalist benefits. Count only the extras you would use and would not otherwise receive.

Is the Hyatt New Hotel Promotion Rate Ever Worth Booking?
With the Hyatt new hotel promotion changes now in effect, start by looking at the total cost for the same room and dates. Then compare cancellation terms, included benefits and the extra points. For example: Suppose your preferred flexible rate is $200 before tax, while the promotional rate is $220. At a property earning 5 base points per dollar, the promotional bonus would be 1,100 points. Using an illustrative value of 1.5 cents per point, that bonus is worth $16.50. You would also earn 100 additional base points on the $20 rate increase, worth another $1.50. Before accounting for taxes, elite bonuses or payment rewards, that is roughly $18 in additional points value against a $20 premium. By contrast, if both rates cost $200 and have equivalent terms, the promotion adds 1,000 bonus points at no additional room cost—twice the old nightly bonus.

Choosing the promotional rate may also mean giving up valuable travel agency perks. At participating luxury properties, eligible agency bookings can include room upgrades, complimentary breakfast and property credits. Benefits vary by hotel and booking program, and upgrades may depend on availability. (ToP’s travel agency can help book all cash rates, from budget-friendly stays to luxury hotels. Email [email protected] with your hotel and travel dates for help exploring booking options, including any available luxury property perks.) If an eligible travel agency rate includes breakfast and a property credit for the same price, those benefits could easily outweigh the extra points. Before booking the double-points rate, compare the full value of each option—not just the points you will earn.
Another Option: Earn Even More With a World of Hyatt Credit Card
If Hyatt is part of your travel strategy, the World of Hyatt Credit Card or World of Hyatt Business Credit Card can help you build your balance beyond the extra earnings that may come with the Hyatt new hotel promotion changes. Both earn 4 bonus points per dollar on qualifying Hyatt purchases, separate from the points you earn through World of Hyatt. At a participating hotel that normally earns 5 base points per eligible dollar, paying for a qualifying new hotel member bonus offer stay with either card can earn 14 points per dollar before elite bonuses: 5 base points, 5 promotional bonus points and 4 card bonus points. That calculation applies to spending eligible for all three earning components. (The promotion does not double your credit card rewards.)

Hyatt New Hotel Promotion Changes: ToP Thoughts
For award travelers, the Hyatt new hotel promotion changes are mostly a devaluation. We lose an easy bonus on eligible points stays and gain another rate comparison to make. Cheap paid stays can also earn less, particularly at Hyatt Studios. However, there are situations where the new offer wins. Think: a competitive paid rate above the earning threshold or a useful opening package like the one advertised in Sapporo. Our advice is to choose the hotel and rate that work best for your trip, then treat the points as an extra. Paying more just to earn a larger bonus can quickly turn a promotion into a poor deal.
