Citi Strata Premier Details

The day is finally here. We have heard the rumors, seen the leaks and now we have all the details in cold hard facts. The wait is over, and I am here to share the Citi Strata Premier details with you. Spoiler alert: the details will feel eerily similar. In walks the Citi Premier card 2.0, with some new card art and a new name. Why corporations dump years worth of marketing, and name recognition, to launch a new (i.e. dumber) name, no one knows. They all do it though, and I am left to think it is just marketing think tanks trying to come up with reasons to justify their fees year after year. Enough pontificating by yours truly, let's dive into this “new” (in name only) card, which at least has a pretty great welcome offer too. We'll be sure to follow up with a full Citi Strata Premier review sometime later this week too.

Citi Strata Premier Welcome Offer

Here are the details for the Citi Strata Premier welcome offer:

  • Earn 75,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 in the first 3 months of account opening
  • The card has a $95 annual fee, which is NOT waived the first year

This offer is better than the standard offer for the old Citi Premier card (60,000), but not quite as high as the 80,000 point offer we saw a year or two ago. It is still a really good offer overall though.

Eligibility Rules

Even though the Citi Strata Premier is a “new” card (in name only) it is still tied to the old Citi Premier card in terms of eligibility. Here are the details listed in the card's terms:

Bonus ThankYou® Points are not available if you have received a new account bonus for a Citi Premier ® or a Citi Strata Premier account in the past 48 months.

Card Earning Structure

Here are the details on the Citi Strata Premier's earning structure:

  • Earn 10x points per $1 spent on Hotel, Car Rentals and Attractions booked through CitiTravel.com.
  • Earn 3x points per $1 spent on
    • Air Travel
    • Other Hotel Purchases (not in the Citi travel portal)
    • Restaurants
    • Supermarkets
    • Gas Stations
    • EV Charging Stations
  • Earn 1x points per $1 on all other eligible purchases

The only differences from the old Citi Premier card is the 10x earning through the Citi travel portal, which every bank seems to be cashing in on these days. The other change to the earning structure is adding EV charging stations to the 3x category, which is a nice addition. Overall, the Citi Strata Premier took what was a great earning card, and made it a little better.

Citi Strata Premier Card Benefits

The Strata Premier comes with the following card benefits for its $95 annual fee:

  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Transfer partners eligible
  • Travel insurance coverages
  • $100 off a single hotel stay of $500 or more when booked through CitiTravel.com
    • This is available per calendar year

New Citi Card Details: ToP Thoughts

The Citi Strata Premier details are not all that surprising, since it is pretty much the same as the old Citi Premier card. The main difference is in the earning area, where they added a new 10x category and beefed up the 3x earning category options. The increased offer is a nice plus as well.

While this card is for people over 5/24, I would put it near the ToP of the list (if not the ToP) once you go over. Remember to only apply if you have less than 3 hard pulls in the last 6 months, otherwise you will likely be denied per the Citi application rules.
