American Airlines Award Sale
American Airlines is running a massive sale on award flights to destinations all over the world this winter. Through Nov. 16, AAdvantage members can book discounted award tickets starting at 7,500 AAdvantage miles one-way for domestic flights and 16,000 miles for long-haul international routes. Update 11/16/25: This offer was extended.
No Fancy Flights This Time
The American Airlines award sale is only for economy flights, so no dice if you're looking to score a business class deal. But if you have AAdvantage miles from one of American's co-branded credit cards or Citi ThankYou points you can transfer to American, this sale could be a great way to redeem them.

American Airlines says there are more than a million discounted seats on sale as part of this promotion. With this American award sale, you can book discounted award flights to destinations throughout the U.S. as well as Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and beyond. Only American Airlines-operated economy flights are part of this award sale; partner airlines are not eligible for this promotion.

- U.S., Mexico, Caribbean and Central America: From 7,500 miles one way (excludes Hawaii and Alaska flights)

- Asia, South Pacific, India and the Middle East: From 20,000 miles one-way
- Award rates can change based on availability

How To Book American's Award Sale
American has a long list of discounted award flights on its sale page. That's a good place to start if you're interested in booking this deal and want to get an idea of what destinations are on sale.
Some routes may be even cheaper than advertised, like this flight from Dallas (DFW) to New York (LGA) for just 7,000 miles one-way.
You may be better off simply plugging your desired destination into American's flight search and seeing what award rates come up. For instance, I searched for flights from my home airport of Minneapolis (MSP) to Santiago, Chile (SCL) and found one-way flights for the advertised 16,000-mile rate.
American makes it easy to zero in on the lowest rates with its award calendar. Start by entering your home airport, destination and desired dates. Be sure to select “one-way” and “redeem miles.”
Once your search results load, select the “calendar” option.
This will pull up a month-long view of award rates, with the lowest rates highlighted in green. Use the arrows to search additional months.
You can perform the same search in reverse to piece together a roundtrip itinerary. You don't have to book one-way to take advantage of this award sale. Once you find rates you're comfortable with, you can book a roundtrip flight as normal.
Just 35,000 AA miles for a roundtrip flight to Rome (FCO) is a pretty incredible deal.

American is out with a great award sale that could help you book flights to tons of destinations all over the world for fewer miles.
