Return Timeshare Presentation Offer

We recently got back from a trip to Orlando where we stayed at the Sheraton Vistana Villages on a great deal. It was like one those amazing timeshare presentation deals I write about all of the time, but this offer didn't require me sitting in a room for two hours to get it. Well, I messed all that up when they waived some other goodies in front of our faces upon arrival. Yes, we decided to take on the timeshare presentation anyway, but it was the return timeshare presentation offer that we got upon leaving that I found interesting.

What Is A Boomerang Timeshare Presentation Offer?

I don't know what to call this type of timeshare presentation offer really. I just kind of made up the boomerang name for it once it happened to us. We have done a few timeshare presentation offers now, chasing discounted rooms and tons of free points, but this was our first time seeing a boomerang offer.

This all came about after we did around 45 minutes doing the full song and dance with the our sales contact. Once he finally threw in the towel were sent to the sales manager. That is the normal procedure, so I didn't think much of it. Usually the sales manager gives it one more college try before letting you depart the presentation area. Very similar to what you see at used card dealerships. This time around it went a bit differently though. The manager offered us a new timeshare presentation offer to come back instead of giving us one last hard sell. I thought that was a bit unique, and it was actually brilliant on their part, but more on that in a bit.

Return Timeshare Presentation Offer

Offer Details

Here is what the sales manager was offering if we were willing to do a return timeshare presentation offer:

  • For $1195 we would get a week in a two bedroom room over the next 12 months to do another presentation offer
    • There was $100 due now
    • You could finance the rest of it for $92 a month for 12 months at 0%
  • You would get a $500 Visa gift card, or 100,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, after completing the boomerang timeshare presentation

This was so surprising to me because these timeshare presentation offers normally have a timeframe for which you CAN NOT come back. Usually the terms say the offer is only good for people that have not done one in the last 6 or 12 months. This was available for the next 12 months, not after 12 months. This was all one massive mind game on their part though, and it is salesmanship at its finest (or worst).

Why This Was Genius On Their Part

These boomerang timeshare presentation offers are intended for people that are kind of on the fence about buying a timeshare. The salespeople are hoping to get the people on the fence to come right back to give them another crack at closing the deal. The timeshare company offers another severely discounted room as the carrot. That isn't the genius part though. The genius part is that they will roll that $1195 into whatever timeshare option you purchase when you come back if you decide to buy one. Talk about building up some sunk cost fallacy for people. People will be a heck of a lot more willing to drop $10,000, or whatever down, if they already have $1200 of skin in the game.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see more of this, assuming it will be as successful as I think it will. That could mean that people interested in buying a timeshare should actually hold out for an offer like this. That is if they weren't smart enough to buy a timeshare on the resale market instead already.

Return Timeshare Presentation Offer: ToP Thoughts

We decided to pass on the return timeshare presentation offer even though it was still a pretty good deal. We really enjoyed the property, and I would have no regrets paying $1200 for a week at the resort. When you throw in a $500 gift card, or $650 worth of Bonvoy points, it makes the deal even sweeter. That is like paying $100 a night (or less) for a well appointed two bedroom condo. We decided to pass anyway because we didn't have plans to spend a week in Orlando over the next year. We will be back down for a few nights, but we will be staying at our favorite property in the US instead.

Let me know if you would have jumped on this boomerang offer over in the ToP Facebook Group.
