What Are Hyatt Suite Upgrade Awards?
Hyatt suite upgrade awards let members confirm an upgrade to a standard suite at the time of booking for a stay of up to seven nights. These awards can be applied to cash bookings and free nights (whether booked with points or a free night certificate).
Suite upgrade awards are one of the best perks of the World of Hyatt program. In fact, no other major hotel program guarantees a suite upgrade at the time of booking. These awards are separate from the standard upgrade benefit that is available to top tier Globalist members at check-in under the program's terms and conditions.
What is also neat about Hyatt suite upgrade awards is that you can transfer them to other World of Hyatt members. Getting to book a suite without having any status is quite generous.
You can earn suite upgrade awards as Milestone Rewards after reaching a certain number of elite night credits. Here are the earning thresholds:
- Members can choose to receive one suite upgrade award upon reaching 40 elite nights in a calendar year
- Members can choose to receive two suite upgrade awards upon reaching 50 elite nights
- Two suite upgrade awards automatically upon reaching 60 elite nights
- One suite upgrade award automatically upon reaching 70, 80, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, or 150 elite nights
- World of Hyatt lifetime Globalist members receive four additional suite upgrade awards per year
How to Apply Hyatt Suite Upgrade Awards Online
Here are some simple instructions to apply Hyatt suite upgrade awards online. Hats off to Hyatt for making this process simple and intuitive.
For these steps to work, you must have suite upgrade awards available in your account, to state the obvious. Also, you will only be able to apply your upgrades if you are logged into your World of Hyatt account.
Once you log in, just search for the property you want and your specific dates. When you click on that property, the website will show you all eligible awards that you can apply to that potential reservation. For example, here is a search for the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort:
Notice how under “Eligible Awards” I have the ability to apply a guest of honor award or a suite upgrade award. (The club access award option is not available because this resort does not have a club lounge, so that award cannot be applied here.) Also notice at the very bottom how there are seven types of room and four kinds of suites available. This means at least one of those suites qualifies for a suite upgrade award.
If we click to apply the suite upgrade award, the website removes all other rooms and suites from the screen, leaving only the suites that qualify for the suite upgrade award and that are available for the dates of the stay. In this example, there is only suite available, which is the executive suite:
