United Airlines 2026 Status Match
Do you have status with an airline other than United? There is a United Airlines 2026 status match opportunity, offering eligible travelers to match their status with another domestic or international airline to United MileagePlus Premier status. With this promotion, enjoy the equivalent level of United status for 120 days, with the option to extend it for the rest of 2026 by completing a status match challenge.
Chasing airline status isn't for every traveler. These days, it typically requires a ton of flying or, more often than not, spending with the airline to achieve. But if you have status with a particular airline, a status match can be a great way to test out loyalty to a different airline — and at least get some additional temporary perks.
Details Of The United Airlines Status Match
This status match is available to new applicants through June 30, 2026. It must have been at least three years since you last received a United status match.
With this promotion, you'll match to one of the four levels of United Premier status — Silver, Gold, Platinum, or Premium 1K — depending on your existing tier of status. The following airline loyalty programs eligible for this United Airlines status match, and which tier of United status you'll match to.
Note that United says this is only a partial list of eligible airline programs. So if you have elite status with an airline that isn't listed here, it's still worth applying for the status match and seeing if you qualify.
One more thing to note: You must have earned your airline status. If you received elite status with one of these airline loyalty programs through another status match, promotion, or were gifted status, you won't be eligible for this United Airlines status match.
How To Apply For A United Status Match
You can apply for the United Airlines status match HERE. To apply for the status match, you'll need to provide the following information:
- Your United MileagePlus loyalty account number (it's free to join)
- Valid email address on your MileagePlus account
- A digital copy of your current membership card, including membership cards stored in the digital wallet on your phone or your airline's mobile app version, for the frequent flyer program you are matching from. The membership card must clearly identify:
- Your first full and last name
- Current elite status
- Current elite status expiration date or validity period, which must be valid through the duration of the current calendar year
- Frequent flyer number
- Frequent flyer program and/or airline name.
It can take up to 14 business days for your status match to be a approved.
But there's one catch. If you're approved for a United status match, your complimentary United Premier status won't kick in until after your next United flight. You'll have 90 days to fly an “Activating Flight” on United or United Express. Within five to seven days after your Activating Flight, your MileagePlus account will be updated with your matched level of Premier status, which will be active for 120 days from the date of your flight.
How To Keep Your United Status For Longer
Enjoying your United status perks? United offers you a way to extend your matched Premier status for the rest of 2026. You need to earn a combination of Premier qualifying flights (PQF) on United-operated flights and Premier qualifying points (PQP) on United or United Express-operated flights or from purchases made with an eligible co-branded United credit card within 120 days after receiving your complimentary United status.
How many PQF and PQP you must earn depends on the level of Premier status you matched to.
You'll earn 1 PQF for each United or United Express-operated flight you take. You'll earn 1 PQP for every $1 that you spend on a United or United Express flight. Basic economy flights do not earn PQP. PQF and PQP earned on partner airlines flights also does not count towards this status match challenge.
United MileagePlus cardholders can also earn PQP on their card purchases. United Club Infinite and United Club Business card members earn 1 PQP per $15 spent on their cards, while all other United card holders earn 1 PQP for every $20 spent. How many PQP you can earn through card spending depends on the United card you hold. Cards like the United Explorer card limit you to 1,000 PQP.

Following the overhaul of the United MileagePlus program in 2026, United elite status really matters. While being a United Airlines Cardholder is also highly valuable, United elites now get lots of perks and rewards, as compared to the general public. These benefits, from free checked bags to early boarding, upgrades, and 10% lower award costs and expanded award availability, are also in addition to increased earnings on cash fares.
