How To Take An Uber From Puerto Vallarta Airport
Many might be a little apprehensive about taking Uber in a foreign country. There is no doubt that Uber is more widely accepted than in other countries, sometime within even the same country. As I showed in our Cabo Uber guide, you can do it, but it comes with a catch. In Puerto Vallarta it is a bit more accepted and discussed at the airport, but still requires a little bit of a catch here as well. All in all, it is a fairly easy process and it is very affordable as well.

As of October 2025 there was a recent ruling that may allow Ubers right at the airport. However, no one knows which direction Uber will take. I think the method covered here may still be more beneficial in terms of ease and cost.
What to Do First
Have your Uber app downloaded and ready before you arrive. You are unable use Uber credits here, so have your cards linked you want to use ahead of time. Bypass all the timeshare sales people and those trying to sell you cars or taxis as you exit immigration. Although you will not need cash for an Uber, find an ATM if you will need cash while on your stay. As always, I use my Schwab ATM card to rebate my fees. The next step is to exit the airport where you will go through the gauntlet of those again trying to ask you for a taxi or shuttle service. Keep in mind, some will even mention Uber, but ignore them.

How To Take An Uber From Puerto Vallarta Airport: Directions
As I exit the airport, I turn to the left. This is where I start to request my Uber and choose the option for Restaurant. This is an area across the street where you will catch the uber. Most of my wait times have been in the 5-10 minute range so you have time.

You will see other options come up in the Uber app, but the drivers generally are just going to tell you to go to the restaurant. They are not supposed to stop on the airport side unless far enough away (this may have changed with the recent rule change).

You will continue to walk past all the shuttles and taxi sales people to the end of the airport building.

At the end of the building turn left and head up the pedestrian bridge

Once across the bridge you will walk past the first few stores. Again, you may experience some taxi sales people here, but just say no thank you and move on.

This is the area where the Ubers will pick up. While you wait, there is a taco stand as well as a couple small stores. This can be a great spot to pick up a few cold beverages or electrolyte drinks while waiting for your Uber. When you get dropped off they will be able to drop you off right at the airport.
How To Take An Uber From Puerto Vallarta Airport: ToP Thoughts
Uber can be a great way to save on transportation when travelling, especially internationally. Puerto Vallarta is no different in that regards, and other than a short walk after arrival it is very easy to navigate. This gives you the option to skip the taxis and shuttles and make your arrival less stressful with an app that most of us use frequently already. Have you taken an Uber in Puerto Vallarta?
